More X50 Stuff
More X50 Stuff
I think the last X50 thread was deleted?
Anyway I know everybody says the X50 package is not worth the price new, 15-17k. However I think everybody said it does come with good stuff like GT2 intercoolers and KKK24's and a slightly retuned ECU. My question is with the price of used X50's coming down to the 100k level can't you just add an exhaust and have the ECU redone by GIAC and get 550-600hp since you would be adding these same parts anyway to get these hp figures?
Seems like if you could get a great deal on a used X50 it might be cheaper than say a used 02 and adding the turbos and intercoolers? Any Input on this?

IMHO - I think that if you could find an X-50 within a couple of thousand dollars of a non-X-50 you would be nuts not to take the X-50.
I ordered the X-50. I think my $17K was well worth it. If I had it to do over, I'd still get the X-50.

I got my x50 used with 3k miles on the clock and all I have to add is the Stage 4 ECU and exhaust to get close to 600hp - I am happy with this choice so far and plan on doing these mods soon
not sure if i am understanding what you all are saying.....do NOT get the x50 OR get the x50??? (regardless of new or used). i understand what the upgrades are comprised of from the factory and what can be done aftermaket to that package, so why wouldn't one order it (or pick one up for a bit more used)??? wouldn't that package be a great base to start off with and need fewer mods to get to same power as non-x50 car to same h.p. figure?

well, i guess the next question would be why buy a (used even) gt2 when you can buy a used tt, put some $$$ into it and have a car that will be MUCH more powerful and have bigger and better brakes even for far less money??? does the weight diff. make that much diff. when talking about this much horsepower? i have read plenty on this site and elsewhere to where the gt2 is a great track/street car, but not sure if anybody has ever clearly stated it one way or another?? seems as though many who have modded their tt's to mega horsepower and susp. tweats end up selling them and buying an essentially stock gt2, sometimes with a few mods. is this b/c the re-sale is higher on the gt2 (of course you will never get your money back out of modded tt's )?
another question(i promise to stop soon!) is why 19's??? seems as though they are purely for looks (and they DO look good!). race tires are only avail. in 18's at the largest diameter. ALSO, 19's are worse on the street for comfort and handling too! you want a bigger sidewall for the street as well with all of the uneveness and potholes! seems as though 18's would be the way to go for track AND street!
i guess it comes down to the fact that i am looking for something that can dominate on the track AND be street legal and street worthy.
please, somebody stop me before i start capping and s##t-talking about all of the silly bling bling i see on this site!!!

My $0.02 -- I passed on the X50 and did the Stage 2 -- GIAC chip (with Hammer upgrade) and Faspeed exhaust, etc. -- and am pushing well over 525HP. The upgrade cost less than $6k -installed. Having said that, if I had the chance to get an X50 on a USED car for a few grand (and I mean $3 or 4K) over what a regular TT was, I would jump at it - it provides a higher HP platform for further mods.
As for the GT2 vs TT, the driving dynamics are quite different in a RWD vs an AWD car. I found my previous C2 to be more lively, but I liked hanging the tail out on occassion -- the AWD TT is more planted -- I did dial in some oversteer with my suspension mods -- but it is still not as lively.
Then there is the question of GT2 vs GT3 -- the latest issue of Excellence has an interesting article you should read.

Thanks for all the input guys, looks like a good used X50 is the way to go if you can find one. Chip and exhaust and your done basically for 550hp or so..What's the most hp you can get with 91 octane and the KKK24's?? 600hp??
How much more lag do the 24's have versus the 16's???
I have driven a TT with the hybrids and they hit early with little lag.

X-50 is great new or used. It all depends on the mods and how important it is to you to have Porsche stand behind the increase in HP by warranty. As for hanging out the tail, the engine is still in the back of the TT last I checked--turn off PSM and you can drift and swing out all you want. Be smooth and don't hit the brakes outside the 7% slip angle and PSM stays off.
For those that have modifed a X50 with 24's, a GT2 with 24's or ahve add the KKK24's, is the power band different. I spoke with somebody at ByDesign and theysaid to go with the 16/24 hybrids because of the fast spool and great mid-range. They said the 24's had too much lag on a modified engine and wasn't as drivable on the track. I said why then does Porsche use them on the GT2 and the X50, they said there ok stock but when modified with ECU and exhaust there's more lag?? Sounds strange, who has 24's with mods and is there more lag and do the turbos come in later but hold the boost longer? I noticed on the 16/24 it runs out of pull long before redline, felt stronger shifting around 6k..
