SpeedTech 75mm Y-Pipe & Intake Kit

For those of you that are upgrading and installing a 75mm throttle body and plenum or still have the OEM throttle body, but have upgraded intercoolers and want to maximize their potential, we offer a Hi-Flow intake & aluminum Y-Pipe system with machined billet aluminum fittings, 4-ply silicon hose, clamps and all fittings required for a complete installation. The silicon inlet hoses are 2 1/2" and they lead to a 2 1/2" Y-Pipe with a 75mm exit tube at the throttle body. An advantage of the SpeedTech system is that our silicon hose will not act as a "heat sink" and warm air, such as complete aluminum designs. The SpeedTech Intake/Y-Pipe Kit flows more air than the OEM Y-Pipe and will feed a 75mm TB with a full 75mm dose of air vs. the smaller OEM Y-Pipe, which is significantly smaller than the 75mm TB throat and becomes a restriction when upgrading the throttle body. Additionally, we offer special discount pricing for 6speed members.

Some advantages of the SpeedTech 75mm Y-Pipe Kit are:
  • Enables your motor to take full advantage of larger, higher flowing hardware. If you are running a 75mm throttle body with an OEM Y-Pipe, you are defeating the purpose of the larger TB. The 75mm Y-Pipe will eliminate the OEM restriction and maximize the air flow to your engine.
  • Quicker response. The Speedtech 75mm Y-Pipe will enable more of the increased air pressure of larger turbos to reach the TB faster, with less restriction, increasing power and response.
  • Full 2 1/2" 4-ply silicon plumbing from the intercooler to the Y-Pipe is extremely strong and like the factory design, will not conduct much heat. The larger hose diameter will deliver the boosted air pressure quicker, with less restriction, to the throttle body opening. A significant and worthwhile upgrade for cars with larger than OEM turbos.
  • Can be used with custom intercoolers or OEM style IC's.
Options include:
  • Powder coating of Y-Pipe to match exterior body color
  • Custom color powder coating
  • Choice of boost hose color (red, black or blue)
This intake system enables you to upgrade to a full 2 1/2" boosted intake tract system, such as most of the custom high HP builds, while retaining the OEM fresh air intake and MAF. With black silicon hose and black powder coated Y-Pipe the appearance is very OEM for anyone that wanted to retain the stock look. The opposite of this is the ability to showcase the engine with a mix of colors, body color or a custom color ...as an example, the photo below shows the SpeedTech Y-Pipe in yellow with red hoses. Standard Y-Pipe finish is polished aluminum.

For those of you that are interested in opening up the turbo inlet side, as well, we offer the EVO hard pipe kit and can bundle it with the Y-Pipe...IMO, the EVO pipes are hands down, the strongest and best design on the market. This is not a part you want to fail and the EVO's are built to last and will not retain heat.

Flash68,

Thanks, it works well. I do not have a before and after dyno. This intake has evolved with the car and is designed to compliment a car with larger turbos, hi-flow intercoolers with 2.5" pipe inlets/outlets, 75mm throttle body and 75mm plenum...if you have these parts, but are still utilizing the OEM Y-pipe and hoses, the Y-pipe exit diameter and OEM hose fittings become the most restictive part of the system. This intake will remove these restrictive points for an evenly matched, high flow intake path from the IC's to the 75mm throttle body.

Thanks for the explanation. I know you have a very well thought out and dialed in system. I do not have any of those parts except for my A28s for now. I will strongly consider this piece when I get to that stage in the game.

i have very good results with this mod on my gt2 clubsport, and be very happy with the y pipe from John. Better throttle response, feel more power, boost comes quick and early as before......

One question to John: i use the original pressure hose (not the red one in your photos) and now i am looking for fittings modified into the intercooler. The hose schould be fixed with clamps outside the fitting so i have greater diameter at this place. (maybe i can with those fittings mod the diameter in the intercooler)
One into the intercooler and one out of the intercooler.

Hope my simple english is good enough to explain what i want and you can help me

Hi Winni,

That looks nice on your GT2 and I'm glad to hear it's working so well for you! You can run the larger red hose to your OEM intercoolers and connect to the OEM machined fitting, but that fitting is going to be a restriction and you will have one of these restrictions on each side of your intercoolers. If you want to free up the air path, you should pick up a set of aftermarket intercoolers with 2.5" pipe inlets and outlets, on each end. This will eliminate the OEM fitting bottleneck and provide a clean, smooth, wide open path for the boosted air.

I think your next step should be to pick up a set of aftermarket IC's with 2.5" smooth pipe openings and I can provide you with the hose and hardware that you will require to make the connection and tie it all together. This is what I feel you need to do next to enhance your air flow.
Does this answer your question?

I'm not familiar with the AWE, but I know the EVOMS will work very well with this system. Or if you can find a set of B6, you can cut the OEM style fittings off and weld a short piece of 2.5" aluminum pipe in their place, thereby creating a 2.5" tube end.

Ron, Check your PM - It could be many different things...I have suggested a few possible checks and solutions to help pinpoint the reason.

It's possible that it may be worn out or damaged cats or it could be entirely unrelated to the exhaust, such as running rich due to faulty FPR, larger injectors, aggressive tune, etc....read my PM and we can discuss a plan to determine the cause and remedy it.

I am not sure it's the exhaust, as there are a number of possibilities and our exhaust has been known to pass CA smog many times. If we find it is the exhaust, we will certainly work with you to correct the problem.
