First Installation of Superchargers?
First Installation of Superchargers?
Someone emailed us about claims unsubstantiated. FORMULA MOTORSPORTS created first supercharged 996 back in 99. We still do NOT advocate their use at the track, as the fuel system is not capable of delivering correct mixture in D.E. or track conditions. Clutch has some issues when running hard at the track also, Since we have much more experience at that level, than most shops, we advise caution on installing supercharged kits for cars going to D.E.'s. On the street they perform fine, sadly, the resale value of 996's get very dicey based on aftermarketing the performance, so be aware of that aspect of your experience in the field of "pressure".
There are better ways to go faster at the track other than "blown" engines....havefuntakechancesdriveporsche-Mark

the initial issue with Supercharging is the type of driving the owner will encounter. You see, a 60hp gain on the street wuld be marginally fine, however this HP/Torque upgrade will usually produce a downgrade in engine longevity in weekend jaunts at track events. Compunded by the fact the as the ambient temp rises at these events, the intake air temp will rise exponentially based on the compressor of the system doing what it does best;compressing the air, thereby increasing it's temp. It plays havoc on the tops of the pistons when running flat out. Hot days, long run times, pump gas (pissy to being with) , whew!
We have sucessfully reconfigured the mapping of the engine to a point, that is why we have been conservative on boost pressures.
But for several thousand dollars, there are better alternatives going faster in a straight line! Again, it doesn't exactly help in the resale department also. havefunrunboosteatpistons-Mark
