Speaker Recommendations?

About to get some new speakers in here.

From browsing the forums it seems most recommend MB Quarts or Focals.

However, I'm not big into amazing sound, and the only reason I'm buying is because my friend who works at CC gets a 65% discount on wants me to get some.

I'm getting a Polk Audio 6.5" for the door panels. An upgraded version of this: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-...oductDetail.do that normally costs $350 I believe.

My questions are these (I do not know anything about speakers):

1) How hard is it to install these? Would Circuit City be able to do the job? My friend claims the CC here has one of the best roadshops around town.

2) I was reading normally you have 5.25" or 6.5" Subwoofers in the door speakers... If this is true, then should I not get the Polk speakers I mentioned before? They seem to be standard speakers, not subs.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Polk makes some decent speakers. They tend to be power hungry though, so depends how involved you want to get. Putting a 6.5 in the door panels involves a fair amount of cutting of the stock enclosure and sealing it up. 5.25 would be easier, but even some 5.25's need some triming. Also if you have a stock hi-fi amp, the polk speakers will not be the right impedence for the stock amp. My advice is to buy your parts from your friend, but go to an installer whose done porsches before, or do more research on here. Theres lots of very informative threads on here and on rennlist.

I would suggest auditioning an upgraded / custom system. You'll soon realize what your ears have been missing. It doesn't take a musician to appreciate a nice sound system. Not a big fan of chain electronic superstores in terms of installation work. But if you are only removing/replacing speakers, shouldn't be a problem. PM me if you need Critical Mass components and I'll put you in direct contact with their W. Coast distributor.
