Valentine 1 radar

Got my car back from the boys at Icon TV and they installed my stealth indicator in a very inconspicuous location right in front of the shifter. BUT, then they installed the main unit at the top of the windshield in plain view as they said it would be the best place for detection purposes I wanted it installed in the trunk, but they said it would reduce the detection sensitivity and accuracy. Not wanting to wait to call V-1 tech support tommorow, I figured I would solicit the wisdom/experience of y'all.

you cannot place a v1 in the trunk, it will do you absolutely not good. Why do you care if its in view or not? if you are in california a radar detector is 100% legal. I've gotten pulled over several times with a radar on my dash and even had the cops be very polite to me and not give me a ticket.

Best location is the center of the windshield, as high as you can get it. I generally tuck mine to the right of the mirror.

Putting it anywhere that doesn't have a direct, unobstructed view of the road in both directions is fairly pointless. May as well not even use one.

Thanks guys. It stays on the windshield. I guess my stealth display is kind of useless then

Mine is up to the right of the mirror (literally by 1/4"), where the unit is just below the tint line. From the outside, its not all that easy to see just because the mirror, windshield tint area and V1 almost blend in together. (versus it being bottom of windshield, mid-windshield...etc). Plus the range is outstanding!

The previous owner of my car had the unit installed so that the only visual part that is seen is by the driver due to the indicators being in the rear mirror. It probably cost him some bucks to do so but it eliminates having a unit stuck to the glass.
Some local shops have the pick ups located in the nose and tail of the car and the receiving signals being piped into the board mounted in the dash area. Totally stealth that way.

I stick mine in the center right under the rearview mirror. Worka good there and can pick up Ka about 2-3 miles away. Too bad the cops use laser around here.

Yup. I had mine tucked to the right of the mirror as well. It stuck out just enough so the rear radar had a view back. Works great up there and the distance it can see is awesome.

Not really. If everything is wired correctly and the detector is tucked behind the mirror, you will hardly see it. Additionally, having the stealth display means that only you will see the warnings. This is especially true at night. Only you'll be able to see the Christmas tree light up... no one else will including cops and neighboring motorists...

Also, it depends where you put your stealth unit. If it is down low in the center under the radio, it is not very useful and it makes you take your eyes off the road just when you need to be watching the road the most. I put mine right in the speedo and it is very easily seen with my peripheral vision there so I see the lights without looking away.

FYI... the same company that does the above (I spoke to them a couple weeks ago) also makes custom enclosures for the Porsche. For a cab they take the bar that is behind the rear seats where the roll bars pop up and create an OEM looking enclosure. Totally hidden and OEM look to boot. Very, very slick
