Well, I picked up my 02 Targa tiptronic with 60K miles for exact same price....which I at least thought was a good deal since it was so clean....so if it feels right, go for it. I cant do the darker color but I like the skirts....best of luck.

Good luck with the pcar shopping- get a PPI!!
Forum members- What do you all think about 996 Targas in general? I noticed that the number of Targa owners on this forum seems kinda low. Pros / cons?

I love my 996 Targa. I keep reading about the top heavy feeling, but frankly I simply don't experience it. The Targa has capabilities far beyond my ability, although I do not track the car and perhaps that may be a different story.
I'm not convinced I want a cab and I know for sure my wife does not like riding in one so the Targa gets me close to the cab feeling without stepping into the full open top ride, which offers both a good and bad experience at highway speeds. At the same time, the targa top brings in the outside far more than a sunroof. I also prefer the look of the coupe/Targa to the cab, but this is personal preference of course.
The hatchback component is a huge bonus ... from taking my boys to their ball games and just heaving their bags and bats into the back, to runs out to the golf club, it really expands the useability of the car.
... just my $.02 - more mods coming this spring

Pros
1. Perfect touring/weekend car. The hatchback gives you better access to luggage, golf clubs, etc., etc...
2. Keeps the lines of the hardtop while allowing you the sun of a cab. Nobody will mistake a Targa for a boxter.
3. You can open the glass roof at 100mph. With a cab I believe you need to stop. You can also close it on the fly if you encounter a bit of rain.
4. You can have a real conversation with the top fully open.
5. Fiancee loves it.
6. Tracks really well. I've taken mine to Alex at Sharkwerks and it handles beautifully on the track. The frame is a bit more flexible than the hardtop, but I hardly notice.
7. Rare. I see 996s all over the place, but almost never see a Targa in the Bay Area.
Cons.
1. Hasn't happened to me, but I've heard of roof leaks. If I were buying one off the street, I'd probably hose it down and see if anything drips...
In the end I love the car, and would buy it again.
I'm still trying to figure out a price for a 02 Targa with the same miles. It would help me a lot if you let me know where you ended up on the price.
Thanks,
Kevin
