How to Retro Fit Oem Turbo Rear Bumper on a Narrow Body

Hey guys. I know this has been done before on narrow body cars. I know Newport 996 has done it and I'm sure some others. What I need to know is how do the Body Shops Mod the larger turbo Oem bumper to fit narrow body cars?

Thanks, Russ

Last I heard - cut and re-weld the seam to eliminate 1" from each side...

You may want to talk to "DonW-Cape Cod" on Rennlist. He has done this mod.

I don't think Don modded his. That's why his fits a little weird. You still have to deal with rerouting the exhaust tips too. Seems like more of a pain in the *** than it's worth.

I went with the Anziano's bumper. Unlike some of the other ****ty turbo rear bumper replicas, the anziano's is actually an exact copy of the real one done in fiberglass.

I think the reroute is pretty simple as it takes about 30 minutes at a muffler shop, OR get the C4S extension pipes. The Anziano bumper looks good...BUT I hate fiberglass as my last one was, and in a slow rear end tap, it cracked in half....that was WITH the bumperettes.....it also started to ripple after a few years.....I was glad I was rear ended so I could get th OEM, and it looks great...also with the OEM, its actually wider than stock....so you get that C4S look from the back....

Don't get me wrong, I like the look of OEM. However, between the cost of the conversion, the exhaust re routing, and the cost of an oem bumper, it's a little steep and more complicated than I prefer. Not to mention you have to find a body shop that's better than average to pull it off properly. Yours looks great though.

I think you'll have to admit there are different grades of fiberglass. Some are better than others. Also, if it's more than a slight bump in the rear, we're both going back to the body shop regardless of what the bumper is made of to fix the paint damage

I guess I am lucky, found a perfect bumper for $250, then had it modded for like $500...Thats cheaper than any of the fiberglass ones I have seen, and thats prepped for paint at that point. Then add $200 for re-routing, and that includes custom tips....I was out under a grand, minus paint....probably about $1250 total with paint....Thats about the price of a fiberglass bumper alone. I am also lucky that my body guy pretty much invented the mod....so they know what they are doing.

You get all the lucky breaks. Guess that's a benny of living in CA. All the great bodywork people and tuners are there. If I remember right, you have that great exhaust tip hookup too. I guarantee if I asked a shop here to do that, they would have probably charged double due to the experimentation involved to get it right. For $1200, that's a good deal. Hopefully your bumper doesn't break in half though

They dont cut it in the middle, they trim a section at the wheel wells. That way its got all the width of a C4S, but fits perfectly at the wheel arches. So yeah, it is lucky to be in SoCal.....you still have that TT wing?

Hmmm. I had only seen the mod where they split it down the middle. Seems a little sketchy. That sounds like a much better way of doing it.

The wing is gone. One of the forum members on here is running around with it. You snooze, you lose I did give you first dibs though.

Thanks again for the tip on TA wing. I'm still loving it. I think I can get at least a couple more years of enjoyment out of the car from the wing install alone

Yeah the TA wing is NICE....The next time I see one I will ****** it up....Yeah the cut down the middle is not what i would recommend. Now the wheel arch mod, is perfect! You cant tell it was modded.
