Check Engine Light with Evo Supercharger?

My Check Engine Light has come on on my 2000 996 with the Evo Supercharger installed (serial #004 i think). I checked the gas cap and it was on tight, and it doesnt seem to be going off. Any idea what the cause might be? I only have about 300 miles on the SC, including one autocross. It's performed quite well and I don't notice any problems other than that pesky little light....

I'm out of warranty so wondering what to have the dealer check first (no other porsche service in my little town as far as I know)...

If anyone else has had this experience let me know. I dropped Todd an email a couple days ago but haven't heard back, so was planning to call him tomorrow...

Thanks for any help!
Scott

may just be the mass airflow sensor. i figure with all that trusted air it will not hold up too well.

scott, i have heard about the light from several people. one person mentioned that after a certain amount of miles the light turns off due to computer catching up with changes. another issue as Don Relentless brings up is that filter oil from the k&n filter could be afecting the mass airflow sensor. my SC was just installed and has 0 hrs right now. but my installer made a point to very lightly oil the filter. definitely check with todd by phone on this.

a loyt of people recommend buying new filters instead of reoiling...new K&N is cheaper than a new MAF...Also, the K&N is supposed to last a loooooooooooooong time...

Scott,

I am sure that it is something simple. Typically when the CEL comes on and the car is still running perfect it is a mal-adaptation of the ecu or another simple fix. The MAF could be bad, however if this is the case, there are usually drive-ability problems. I find that cars that do not get driven regularly have more issues than those that get driven daily. Can you have the car scanned to determine what the exact code is? If not, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect it. Then synchronize the TB by turning the key to the on position (without starting it) and let it sit for 2-3 minutes with the drivers door open. This will reset the computer and reset the TB calibration. If the light is off after this procedure, then you had a "soft fault code" that should not come back after the car re learns during the adaptation process. If the code does come back, we need to find out what the code that is causing the CEL. Call me with any questions. Take care, Todd

Hehe another benefit of doing what Todd said is that by resetting like that the DME no longer thinks you want to drive like a grandma...
