My 996 is slow
Amen to that..sometimes we just have to be content
but what are we complaining about it's a 911, I bet everyone knows that over what an E63 is

Sorry but if someone said you can have your 99' 911 or a new E63 I would take the 99 hands down not even think twice. It's not about the heritage either.(well of couse it is) ITS A SPORTS CAR PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! An E63 is a sedan with enough horsepower thrown at it to emulate a sports car. A poor handler compared to a 996. Get a 996 turbo used for half the price and chip it, done. Nice sedan VERY nice sedan but not a replacement. Besides a Cayenne Turbo can out corner it and an M5(FACT) : )

I also own a few rice rockets including a EVO and a S14 right now... they are both faster than my 2002 C4 cab, but... I still like the C4 the best and drives it the most among my sport car. Even if used C4 right now cost about 750K, it still attracts more chicks than my rice rockets or LS460 which cost over 100K... I think my Porsche is a bargain when compared to my LS460. But... I had a chance of driving a Ferrari F430 for awhile... and that's a whole new ball game...
i bought an E55 (faster then the E63) while i still had my 996 C2 - and it was sick fast - i bought a SL55 shortly after that and same deal - insanely quick - but it was always a joy to get in my 996 and really drive it
But at the end of the day - the comfort, the interior, the speed... yea it was the E55 for me (SL55 on the nice days) and i miss em both... don't miss the C2... could be cause of my X50 TT... who knows

Remember now, that MB and Vette/ZO6 have their power early in the RPM range, while your C2 is between 5K to 7K RPM. Porsche are engineered for the track hence the very linear power band. At that high RPM, our P cars are very very agile/quick. Those muscle cars would easily become tail happy on twist and turns in the hands of amateur drivers.

my brother's E55 is stock and its a monster on straights and on turns. its no 911 turbo but i'm sorry guys it will spank ur cars on or off the twisties. auto-xr i know u love ur car but i think u need some seat time in the E-AMG. i prefer the 55 but 63 is just as capable. i am also a coupe guy and not a fan of sedans but after u drive this car and i mean actually DRIVE this car i think u will have some newfound respect for it and its abilities. its not as boaty as u guys think. maybe to the common driver it seems not capable but the E55 takes everything like a champ and u still have space for everything u need. if u really think all of that about this car u either have no seat time or not enough.
here's a pic for u too

I guess no mother will ever admit that her child is ugly... Same with a Porsche.
If you take the nanny stuff off you have a handful. A car that is very light in the front at speed, that wears its tires out every 7-8K miles ( in the back), that has an acceleration that is way below average nowadays ( except the TT version at 150K dollars decked-out and taxed) and that might blow an engine at any time.
But... it's still pretty and you can get lots of nice Porsche jackets!!
I am saving up for that new engine.. and knowing my luck a new gearbox too!!
Nissan's GTR is going to wipe it's butt BIG time.. Coming to a street near you soon!!
Can not wait to see the consternation!!

One of the best options between the W211 s/c E55 and the NA E63 is the "older" W210 N/A E55. It is lighter than both of the later versions and has all the creature comforts one can expect from an "AMG" sedan. Plenty of good tuners available with enough performance packages to satisfy your need for speed.
No it is not a Porsche they are two totally different animals. Both are great by their own right. Just get one of both and enjoy the ride.

996 and NSX
Thats what I did. I bought both.
I have a Supercharged NSX (425hp and eats Vettes for breakfast) and still handles the twisties (lowered, coilovers, etc.). It is a little race car.
The C4 Cab 996 I bought as more of a sports car cruisong machine. The ride is much smoother and it is easier to drive daily.
If you want fast just get out some $$$ and if you want it to handle better get out some more $$$.
The difference is just to be sure that the car is built to be able to increase performance. I would guess you could keep pouring money into teh suspension of that MB but it wouldnt get you very far as the suspension and the weight are not enough to say sports car.

the E55 (63 too im sure) handles quite well - its no porsche, but it does hold its own, quite surprising actually - but it was too big for me, i like coupes much better, maybe one day... too young for a sedan though
