My 996 is slow
I've raced motorcycles for 10 years (road racing) and I much prefer the middleweights (600s) over the big bikes (1k's) because of the handling. Any idiot can go fast in a straight line, but it takes an extraordinary idiot to go fast in the corners... and the racing is alot closer in the 600s. I'll take the Porsche over a Mercedes any day. Just my style.

For example - Dodge Viper
I guess no mother will ever admit that her child is ugly... Same with a Porsche.
If you take the nanny stuff off you have a handful. A car that is very light in the front at speed, that wears its tires out every 7-8K miles ( in the back), that has an acceleration that is way below average nowadays ( except the TT version at 150K dollars decked-out and taxed) and that might blow an engine at any time.
But... it's still pretty and you can get lots of nice Porsche jackets!!
I am saving up for that new engine.. and knowing my luck a new gearbox too!!
Nissan's GTR is going to wipe it's butt BIG time.. Coming to a street near you soon!!
Can not wait to see the consternation!!

Give a Ford Escort 500 horses and I still won't drive that.

Yeah....I drove a few Mercs the other day, and I almost thought about ditching the C4...then I got in it and drove home...lol....NEVER.....The ONLY merc I would consider is the CLK 63 Black Series......

Oh and if you wanna wait...there will be a AMG C63....the same 6.3L engine in a C class...small and agile...it will be an M3 Killer. And then there is also the lexus IS-F, anither high HP, small sedan...bottom line, you bought a Porsche for more than the numbers....its a car thats a sub 5 second 0-60, handles better than any sedan out there, stops on a dime, and you can drive it everyday and its workmanship and quality will last you 250,000 miles....thats something you cant get anywhere else. You think in 10 years the Vette will look like a 10 year old 996? How about a 10 year old Benz? Hell 5 year old Benz's are a mechanical nightmare, let alone 10 years....I have 145k miles on my 8 year old 996 and it looks like new in an out....runs strong as the day i bought it. Thats why I bought a Porsche...its the best all around sports car out there. there are cars with more HP, and cars that have more exotic looks, and cars with better handling, but not all in one package.
I've owned 2 300 HP cars in my life, a 911 and an STI. While the STI can keep up with the 911 in just about every respect except triple digit speeds, it's not a 911. Of course, ask me how I feel in a few months once my stage II package is on the STI and I'm closer to 400 HP. No, don't bother, I'd still trade it for the 911. Unfortunately you can't fit 2 baby seats in a 911 so that's that.

has everyone forgotten that these carreras are almost 10 years old?
they're a damn good car that has barely shown its age. You'll be hardpressed to find a car that still does everything this well, and looks good doing it after a decade.

Things I have learned in my short life.
1. Never use a computer that is faster than yours otherwise you run the risk of having to buy a new one.
2. Never test drive a car that is faster than yours otherwise... well you get the point.

I agree 100%. I have ridden motorcycles for most of my life, and had a decent amount of track time as well. I always get **** for riding a 600, but I have honestly never felt the need for more power. I know plenty of guys on litre bikes that will smoke me in the straights, and some who can smoke me in the twisties (provided they actually know how to ride). Still, I like the weight and the powerband of a 600, and have never found the need for anything more than that. I know for a fact that I cannot ride a modern day 600 (R6, 600RR) to it's full potential on the track, so I see no reason to upgrade to something bigger.
Oh, and I ride a Honda, 600 F4I. It's got a few mods
.
that's exactly what I was going to say. I try not to test drive a car faster than mine or else I'll suddenly feel like my car is lacking. As long as I don't experience a faster car to compare to my 911, my car will always feel fast.
Teflon Jones, you're really missing out if you don't go for the babseats in the 996. I have three kids, all under 5, and even the newborn (who goes up front with the airbag deactivation kit) has his own porsche car seat. We have a blast in the car together, and you should see the looks we get when we all get out (cue image of clowns getting out of a bettle). These are really pretty kid friendly cars...as long as they're little.
