How much did you pay for a clutch replacement?

Hey guys, i think my clutch is slipping and it needs to be replaced. How much does this kind of work run for?

Is it common for the clutch to slip periodically? I only have 38K on the odometer?

Thanks.
Dean

You should get the new clutch on your own (Suncoast or Sunsetimports) [Sunset Price $424.68].
Then find a good place to install... thats the most cost effective way... I have seen 996's clutchs last anything between 10k miles up to 90k miles.. depends a lot on the driving habits of the owner..

Anywhere from $1,100-$1,300 parts & labor. Or buy the kit and have a local indie install it.

clutch cover, clutch disc, clutch release bearing, clutch release bearing sleeve, dual mass flywheel and flywheel bolts.

whats the thinking behind replacing the flywheel ben.
this isnt usually replaced when doing a clutch. did yours break up or wear right down and score the flywheel?

the recommendation was made to just replace it with a new one by my indy esp since i'm going with an oem dual mass flywheel. my clutch feels fine once warmed up but in the morning on a cold start driving off... i can feel the slippage a bit. since i'm in there for a 50K mile oil change, i figured i'd just get this out of the way since it's been bugging me.

plus i bought my car used with 30K miles... i'm really easy on my car/tranny so i wanted a clean start cuz i know it'll be driven properly.

seriously it's a 6 hour job?

Yup right up there around 6 hrs or possibly slightly over, they will need to drop the transmission.

And you are right there with the RMS, if you have any signs of seepage you might want to get the latest RMS installed at the same time. Anytime you have an RMS leak they recommend changing the clutch if it's even close to time, because getting to the RMS gets you to the clutch (and vice versa).

The indie that did my RMS cautioned me that it is fairly common to need a new flywheel whenever you need a new clutch for the 996. I guess the flywheel is somewhat delicate in these cars? When I got his estimate for the RMS, he quoted me three prices: Just RMS, RMS + clutch, RMS + clutch + flywheel, so I would know the worst case pricing.

I 100% Agree. I will be doing the same when my rms leaks or my clutch slipps.
