The site is not 100% correct. If you have a 2002+ 996 with the fiber optic MOST bus, it looks like you have to buy the POR996V2IPKG, which is $600. Then you have to take it to the dealer to program the stereo to accept a CD changer.

I thought the fiber optic MOST bus was on 03+?

But yeah, the site is somewhat misleading.

I believe you have the old system. That's just what I remember reading awhile back though...so I could be wrong .

Some late model 02's started getting the MOST bus. Not sure how to tell for sure though.

Fiber Optic question

Is there an advantage to having the Fiber Optic system? I wanted to add my DVD/NAVI system from my daily driver but the installer said I would have to have my system redone due to fiber optics. Yikes. Total cost of installation was going to run about $2,500 for just labor and new (2) amps to run bass and stuff.

There's no perceivable advantage to having the fiber optic MOST bus. In fact, there is a severe disadvantage to us, in that everything needs to be replaced if you want to upgrade your system. Your installer is right. You can't just throw in an amp or a head unit and keep the other stock parts due to the fiber optic interfaces. If you have the fiber optic system, it's all or nothing.

My car is an 04'. My installer used a JL Audio interface to "marry" my stock radio/NAV system to a 5ch JL amp. I especially wanted to keep the stock system to retain the NAV feature. Sounds awesome.

I'd rather the cable be installed in the arm rest, so the ipod can be kept in it rather then stick out like that.

Looks kind of interesting, but also kind of fragile. Might be easy to bump while driving. Now, if someone would come up with a pop up unit that could replace the rather useless (who wants coffee directly over your $$$ electronics) cup holder I would be thrilled. Actually, anything useful instead of the cup holder would be nice. . .
