I guess it is the right place to ask...does it look bad to be a 16 year old driving a Porsche? Now, I dont mean a new 80,000 dollar car but a used, 99/00 carrera 2 with miles on it. I am going to be paying for the mods myself. I guess I'm just curious to see what other Porsche owners would think.
By the way this would be a graduation present and for having a 4.0 gpa.

 

I think that nobody cares...the younger you are the better it is. lol

 

My honest opinion? It doesn't matter. Shows you have taste. But most people (and this depends where you live) will take one look at you and the car and assume: you're a rich spoiled kid or you're driving daddy's (or mommy's) car.

If you don't mind that stigma, enjoy. And if you do mind that stigma, enjoy it anyways: you're driving a Porsche.

Thats what i'm doing, however I'll be 19 when I save up all the money for it. I've always wanted one, and thats what I'd like to get, I'll pay for it with my own money and it'll make it even sweeter when I get it.

 

Nick, I am 19 and have an 02 TT. People look shocked when they see some young kid drivin it and some people actually got really pissed at me when they saw the system inside. For the kind of money we are spending, a porsche is def. on the conservative side/low profile side. I WOULD SUGGEST GETTIN TINTED WINDOWS AND NO ONE WILL NOTICE. LOL Dan

Doesn't bother me, but you'll likely run into problems. I can only imagine how cool it would have been to be in high school with a 911. Other people will have issues with it though. I was speaking to the kid at the Boca meet. He works at FVD. I think he's 18 or 19. He's got a 911 turbo. Somebody poured brake fluid all over the left side of it and destroyed the paint at his high school graduation. People get jealous.

 

I am 18 running one of the loudest TT's in the world right now (No Catalytics or Mufflers ), so yes it draws quite a bit of attention . I have not had any neg. experiences besides the one above which happened just recently... O well, thats what insurance is for...

Your age group doesn't seem to handle jealousy very well these days. I hate to say this but, your car will get vandalized. It's just going to cause headaches for you because of your peers jealousy. Wish you luck and hope your insurance company is forgiving also. It's a shame that you can't suceed in life without someone screwing it up for you.

 

Maybe you should start out with something middle of the road, like a BMW 330 or E36 M3. Get some driving experience, and in a few years move into a Porsche. Like everyone says, there are jerks who will give you problems, and you don't need the headaches. Enjoy!!!

 

you spoiled brat...j/k. i think you shouldn't worry too much about what people say, but what they might do to your car considering the crowd and age group that you hang with. there are a lot of haters. i would be proud if my son saved his money and / or got a 4.0 GPA. i think it is well deserved, and i think you obviously will not stop at anything to get this car, even if everyone on this board told you not to. so hurry up and find the damn thing and enjoy. we would like to see pics of your car when you get it. BTW congratulations on your graduation.

i personally hate the "haters" lol, why would i be ashamed to drive a 996 or a nice looking car, even though your parents paid for it.. they worked hard for it bec. you deserve it, for getting 4.0 gpa,, if my parents ever got a report card liek that from me in highschool.. (i would probably be driving a 996 turbo then lol) j/k..

screw the haters .. thats what i say u will always get haters no matter what even if u paid for the car yourself, they will assume whatever the want to assume. As long as your nota d**k to them i wouldnt worry about that, when i was in highschool a while back..(about 10 years ago, kids were driving bimmers, corvettes etc. and nobody really screwed around with them..) man if i drove a porsche while i was in highschool i would have been *pimp*

I was 17 when i got my Porsche Carrera 4 (2001). Nobody really messed with me, but thats because they know im strapped.


If anyone bothers you, just beat the living **** out of them. It works well with a bat, or drive by shooting their house with a bb gun. Take care of yourself
