Cheap Tires Stink
hmm I've had cheap tires at the track and expensive ones. The kumhos estca were just as good as expensive pirellis.
I am not sure what you do doing a test drive, but I would never let u test drive my car.
btw pilot sports are the best period, they also are better then the other expensive tires.

It depends what you use...Some factors such as noise don't bother people but still bother others...
A great dry tire that cheap is the Kumho MX. Overall it's not near a PS2 but it's all about money

I've typically always noticed (and have learned my lesson), when I had gone-ahead and switched away from the Michelins, I immediately would notice the difference in steering response. Not so much meaning the road-grip due to tire compound, but the sidewalls impact.
i always hear vibration, traction, heat rentention issues with off brand tires. i don't put cheap gas or engine oil in my porsche and i sure wont use cheap tires. ur 911 brakes and traction easily exceed tires' capabilities so unless you use your 911 for commuting, don't skimp.

i stretched the budget to step up to the C4S. i'll have to wait a few months until i get my bonus before i can get michellins.
I've gone thru a bunch of tire brands on the porsche. Mosly pirelli's but I've tried hankook ventus (crap compared to the P's)..Kumho's (good for street, not as good on track) and Fuzion ZRi's (close to the performance of the high-end tires but at a much lesser price. It is basically a rebranded bridgestone S02 with a cool label for the import market).
Sumitomo HRTZ III rated BETTER in dry test results compared to the RE050A by Tirerack, same couldn't be said in the rain though.
