sellingcar for boxster/cayman s
Has anyone thought of selling their 996 for something newer and maybe a droptop like a boxster s or cayman s?
Besides the snob appeal of 911 a 295hp mid engine car aint no slouch.
I went to showroom on saturday and even a $125k+ 911 turbo didnt really do anything for me. Dot get me wrong I love my car and puts a smile on my face every time, but it may be time for a new girlfriend.
Anyone live through this or can talk me off the ledge? lol
Thanks
Mike

This goes in and out of my mind every few months. Ive also considered the regular Boxster/Cayman. Better balance in either choice but definetly opt for an S or you will feel slightly disappointed. Ive(again) decided to stay with mine. I owe some omeny on it but it should be paid off soon. So financially thats the ONLY thing holding me back from a Cayman S.
My 996 is a cab which is the only reason I got it. I love this car and it is the second Cab I have had. My first was a 86. I loved that one too. I wouldn't trade mine for anything at the present time but would love to have a GT3 in addition to for my track ride.

I had thought about thinking of trading my 02 996 for a Cayman S, just to get a newer car with warranty for similar money. I drove the regular Cayman, and was very disappointed with the acceleration and overally driving experience. I am a little scared to drive the S though....my life is simpler if I just keep the 996 and I am afraid I might like it too much

I thought of it for a second and then punched myself in the stomach. My 996 C4S is going with me to the grave!! Something about the 911 is special. I don't know maybe because it's my very first Pcar but I truly won't let it go. Well maybe for a GT2 but never for a Cayman or Boxter. (Both are great cars but not for me)IMO
At the time I bought my C4S, I test drove a Cayman S. The Cayman is VERY fun to drive, handles well, and sounds great. The only problem is the lack of seating (room) when you have kids.

If you already have a 911 (996) why switch?
The boxster is out for sure (IMO). My trade down?
The Cayman would be considered but it really looks like a 911. Not a bad choice but not a 911 either.
Stay with the 911, its classic and timeless. In 30 years they will still be making a 911 but not a Cayman or a Boxster (IMO)
If you want a differrent car get something different....Lotus Exige, BMW, Mercedes, NSX. Youll find the performance you want and you may or may not apperciate the Porsche.
I have a Supercharged NSX and a 996 C4 Cab Porsche. The Porsche rides great and handles the curves awesome. It blends in more with regular cars and allows you a bit more incognito (but everyone still knows what it is)
My NSX with 425hp, double wishbone suspension, etc. is very fast and super-easy to drive fast. It has different handling characteristics than the C4 but handles great (I think handles better at high speeds 125mph+). It is very "look at me" and gets lots of attention! (and it eats Vettes...which is important as I live in Ohio and there are alot of them)

I have both an 02 Boxster and 02 C4S and the Boxster is a really fun car to throw around and is so much fin to drive. I never noticed as much until after I got the C4S. If your 996 is a hardtop, going to the Boxster will offer extra airy fun. Don't discount it.

I always thought that my first Porsche would be a Boxter and I came really close a few times over the past months before I got this 99C2 CAB.
Let me tell you the 2005 Boxter (and newer) is nice and especially the "S" versions but like the ole saying goes "Nothing else even comes close" (Timeless Ad for the 911)
In my mind anything else in the family of P cars is a slight down grade. Nothing carrys the weight of the Nine One One!
That's my free advice!
