Replacing engine in 03 C2... upgrades?
Replacing engine in 03 C2... upgrades?
Hey guys.
I am the new proud owner of an 03 c2 cabriolet. I work at the dealership, and we took it in on trade... being a Toyota dealership, we had no idea it needs a motor. Luckily, I bought a warranty.. (No, we didnt know it needed an engine....)
Anyways, Im understanding that Porsche sends out the full long-block crate engine basically.. am I correct?
Few questions--
any Porsche-specific tools needed?
any upgraded engines that would "drop" right in? IE X51, 3.8liter?
Just curious.
love the forum.. being a big Subaru nut, and an avid NASIOC person, I certainly feel at home with the layout of this site..
thanks guys!!

Okay..
Sorry guys.. Im still new to alot of this..
I found the engine, and Im emailing the guy as we speak..
What's the power output on the X51? would I need different headers?
How difficult is the installation of a new engine? I know it's not shadetree stuff, but just curious if any special tools are needed, or if my buddy (ASE certified, Toyota master tech) could handle this?

just a flash as far as I know....champion and farnbacher-loles were doing them....
yup....also if its a warranty issue, they have to send you the engine you are sending in a core for, or they charge you the core fee. Your warranty compnay will proabaly not pick up the core charge. So you cant send in a 3.6L and buy a 3.8L. You cant send in a 3.6L and get a 3.6L x51....When I had my motor swapped I tried. No dice.
Warranty company probably won't want to pay to buy the engine on Rennlist, although you could always try. Also, it would not come with a warranty, Porsche used to offer 2 years on thier warrantied engines. However, I saw a post recently that said they changed their policy and now only cover the "new" engine through the expiration of the warranty. This may be with a CPO warranty, not sure how ir would work with a third party warranty.
I work at a Toyota store... where the car was purchased..
our service department can replace the engine... and the warranty company has agreed to pay..
so, we could show the engine coming from a Porsche dealership, and buy one from rennlist... shady, but, might work. although, I'd love to put in a 3.8liter
either way... anyone know if there is special tools required?

if you buy an engine through porsche on your dime (3rd party warranty included) you get the full 2 year warranty. If for some reason porsche is footing the bill then you only get the balance of whatever warranty remains.
Your warranty company doesn't really care were you get the engine from... normally they will just pay the shop that is doing the work and they can front the engine purchase and give you a total bill for the ins/warranty company to pay. Check with them. Biggest headache is getting the warranty company out to inspect your car and approve your claim, after that you are usually a green light...
My 2 cents.. If I had a warranty.. I would only accept a brand new/reman engine from porsche with all the updates and a full 2 year warranty. Why do anything less?
