Alternative to RSS Plenum?
i would't mind it. i install them myself at home so there's no labour cost for me there. dyno costs are cheap around here..i should be able to get 3 pulls for 40-50$.
until then, look forward to an RSS dyno this summer. i'll also put on headers and an intake with stock muffler and then re-dyno.
3 runs each time at the same facility with controlled climate conditions.

Omar, you replaced the OEM cats right ??
Theo
hi theo,
nope...i'm still running the OEM cats.
i'm thinking of whether or not to do the cat bypass pipes. i LOVED the gurrgly backfiring noise that the muffler bypass pipes had..and i want to try to produce that without the residual volume

OMG!! That is one of the very first TEST PROTOTYPES, those were ALL supposed to be tossed in the trash!! Einmalig, only has this one prototype, there are NOT a production item, never were never will be. They were instructed NOT to sell this item, infact the owner of IPD asked them directly to toss it away, but I guess, this one was dug up out of the trash bin, and now being sold on E-Bay. I spoke to IPD/RSS and they are requesting that it be taken off of E-Bay, and for it NOT to be sold, as this unit is in NO way shape or form endorsed or marketed by RSS or IPD, and does not meet the standards of the production piece, and we're not even sure where in the plenum evolution this prototype is at, it may be a very early piece that makes little to no power, and hence why it was supposed to be thrown away or made into wall art.
I hope this helps clear this up.

That IS AN OLD IPD part. All dealers were instructed to scrap those things. We did install a few of the early designs at our shop in customers cars and they worked great. No problems after a few years. I still have like 5 of those too.
IPD Plenums 101
Greetings 6 Speeders,
The modified factory plenum seen here in this thread isn't an "alternative" to the IPD/RSS plenum; it's the "predecessor". We have made similar posts to help shed some light on the often confusing topic of plenums but here it as again for those of you who missed it earlier.
These were the very first original plenum designs put on the market from IPD when they were only sold through a select number of Southern California shops, including us here at Stuttgart Performance. They are modified factory plenums that have a diversion splitter insert bonded inside. They were effective and provided additional power and torque gains, but as always the innovation ball keeps rolling and IPD continued to perfect the Porsche plenum design. The “new and improved” plenum design currently available is a far superior product that provides better performance and greater reliability. Although the insert boned inside the factory plenum did effectively channel air flow left and right it also became restrictive and limited the full potential of the intake system. So after some extensive testing and development the new patented cast aluminum “Y” plenum went into production. Since this massive technical leap forward, the plenums have firmly placed themselves in a position of being the single best performance mod you can possibly install on any 996/997 Porsche. Bang for the buck they are truly unbeatable.
If anyone ever has any questions or concerns with the IPD intake plenums please never hesitate to give a call here at RSS 714-545-1046.
Thanks for all the continuing support and consideration,
Greg @ RSS
