Alternative to RSS Plenum?
So einmalig Porsche is offering a modified plenum, looks like they use the original plastic plenum and add an insert. Does this mimic the RSS plenum?
Any thoughts?

It looks like they refer to it...I thought RSS had patented their design...so probably not exact. Who knows if it works as well? It would be better if the ebay seller would have stuck a better photo in the auction.
Yes, that is "very", if not exactly similar to what one of our guys here (xdream) did not too long ago. He did some extensive experimenting and modifications to the plenum, but wasn't happy with the end results.
man when you start messing with these yahoo design without some backing you're asking for trouble and whole lot of wasted money..... you bought a porsche, not a home made civic......

Well I still can't understand why the RSS Plenum is as expensive as it is. R&D costs aren't small, I know, but it is just a small piece of aluminum that can't possibly be that pricey to manufacture.
2nd Gen,
depending on how they tested it, the costs can be quite large, especially if they did more than just come up with what "looks" to be the best design, dyno test it 30 times and then make another version, and dyno test it for further difference. Chances are they probably rented out some lab equipment for flow testing etc... those costs add up.
But more importantly i think is that you have to remember: RSS and all those involved have bills to pay. Yes they could sell it for 50-100$ over cost and make some money, but these arn't going on 500,000 Honda's out there, they might only sell 500-1000 of these things so in order for it to be worth it to them (time, effort, and profit to pay the bills), they would want a reasonable return. Cargraphic stuff is pricey with the euro exchange rate so i can't imagine they're moving stuff in volume in what is already a low volume industry. The profit margins need to be higher than say, an AEM CAI or Racing beat DP or something for them to even want to do it.
my 2 cents.

It would be interesting to see a dyno comparison of this against the RSS plenum. I know on the last group buy for the RSS plenum there was alot of discussion about the lack of dyno tests. Don't know why there isn't more information from RSS. However, if you can achieve the same basic results with an insert it would seem to be good for all 996/997 owners.

I'll be dynoing my car this summer. I already have a baseline from a previous mustang dyno run.
I went with the RSS group buy and would be very sceptical about putting a piece of kit only available from Ebay onto my engine.
Buy cheap, buy twice, and probably a new engine as well!
They are selling a rebuilt 3.6L engine if it all goes bang...

I live only 10 min. from Eimalig. I did came across this homemade plenum when I was there. I asked to see it. By the look of the unit the inside piece is aluminum material made of triangle shape mimic to RSS. He asked if I want one for $350. I didn't see any cost saving with this unit without real world comparison with RSS.
