Would you buy this car?
Hi
I'm a Porsche noob and and thinking about an early 996 for a daily driver (making my Z06 a weekend toy). I ran across this car and it seems clean an in generally good shape and about 6k under kbb: http://www.ocpabi.com/index.asp?Larg...2599&ImageID=6
If you click on the CarFax Report link above the pictures to the right, it shows it was in an accident in 2003 then seems to have changed owners a few times after that, including a move from Texas to CA.
Should I be concerned about the wreck and the number of times it changed hands? Again, I'm not looking to build a race car or own a collectable, just a fun daily driver - which means it needs to be reliable and not huge money to maintain (and by maintain I really mean I don't want to have to REPAIR it all the time).
Any help is appreciated!
Eric

If you're looking for a daily driver i'd be suspect of something that has been so transient in ownership. With reliability as the main issue in a daily driver i'd spend a few thousand more and get a car with lower miles from an owner who can tell you something about the car, not a broker who can't spell "inquire" correctly.
At least you will get hit by the typical charges.... clutch, spark+cables+coils, coolant tank and probably RMS. once you factor those items plus the selling price you will get closer to $32K-$33K. You can find a better deal and maybe a '02 for $35... make sure the maintenance is up to date and the car doesn't have too little miles. Yes, that's correct. I rather have 2002 with 48-52K miles than 18K miles. Porsche's engines are made to be running, not sitting in garage!

.
Here is the thing, if you can negotiate the price down to 24-25K and add on 6K for all services, clutch, brake, RMS and anything that the car need. That's 31K and up to par. Now, with the same 31K you can get a car with no accident, less ownership but you still have to shelf out more for service and maintenance. I'll take the first choice.
Beside you already have a real serious fun car for the weekend. The Porsche is your workhorse.

I've got an 01 c2 passively for sale if you're interested. I used to live in Irvine too until my recent move to the westside.
Let me know if you want to see some pics or even take it out for a spin one of these days.
Can't go wrong with a pcar, but definitely do your due dilligence

Damn, a 6'er bought the fleece, but I'll sweeten it up with a gucci wallet and a solar panel =) haha.
I want a sexy white 997 too =(
Its not that bad....I'd have a PPI dont on it and buy a warranty....I put 100k miles on my 996 and paid for 2 repairs...fuel pump @ 130k miles and water pump at 105k miles. Sold it with 145k miles on it....new owner drove it from OC to Seattle and then put in on a ship for Alaska. It was my DD fro 4 years. His only problem will be what to do when the 996 becomes his weekend toy as well! It'll probably be a GT3 as a weekend toy and Z06 as a daily driver...lol...
I have a '99 911 for sale. contact me at dave@cube-vision.com if your still looking and i can send you the details.
