Tt Bumper Retrofit To Nb

Hey guys. Ive searched and cant find the EXACT way how to retrofit the TT Rear bumper to a NB car. I bought a OEM TT Rear Bumper already and its at the body shop who does my work. These guys are good but I told him I would get him detailed info on how this is done. What I know so far is they take a section off on each side near the wheel well, but how much has to come off? Also I know you need to extend the pipes because they exit differently, is there any special piping that is needed or would a muffler guy know what to do? Last I just found out about the heat shield as far as the pipes. I wasnt aware of this what exactly are they and where do they go and where to get them?

I really apprecite the help because I want this mod and hope it turns out alright, the only peace I have is I know guys have had it done i just need a method of procedure of how it is done. Thanks guys

I had the TT bumpers on my last 996,to the best of my knowledge the previous owner didn't have the bumpers modified to fit narrow body and the front bumper was under a lot of stress due to being sucked in on the sides and frequently the rivets would come loose and pop out.

Hope you have better luck and am sure someone here can guide you in the right direction, unfortunately I can't because my car already had it done, THE WRONG WAY!

Good luck, David

The posts I have seen talk about taking a strip out of the middle of the bumper to narrow it to the NB width. I sure if you do a search you will find something here, or on Rennlist or Renntech.

Take the part out of the middle, less work and will line up.There is a detailed post on one of the popular p-car forums. Rennlist ,6speed or renntech, good luck

I have heard take off about an inch off each side as you post near the wheel well. I have never seen one done where it is taken out of the middle. Have anyone done that?

Have the shop remove the NA bumper and pre-install the TT bumper to see how it fitted. From the position, they can tell what need to be done.

On the subject of cut in the middle of the bumper, this way you lose the nice wide rear end.

No Having a Narrow body will cause the the car to loose the nice wide stance...I think this is why its called a narrow body

Ummm...but if you use a widebody bumper and mod it correctly, its JUST as wide at the bumper.....since the "widebody" is only 2" wider total...(1" each side)...you can get that "look"....You dont cut in the middle of the bumper for a number of reasons....integrity of the bumper, location of the exhaust cutouts, width of the bumper. You mount the bumper, and where you cut is at the wheel well, then plastic weld it....here was my wide narrow body....

TT bumper on a narrow body

I just purchased a TT bumper off of eBay and am having it modified by the same shop Newport996 used. The shop is performing the same mod that Newport996 described in his post. I spoke with the shop prior to making the the purchase and they said that they have done several of these mods and the outcome was excellent. So far their service has been exceptional. They actually drove over to the shop I bought the bumper from and inspected the it for me then brought it back their shop. I am going to pick it up next week when I am out there on business. I will update the board, once I get it installed.

Big thanks to Newport996 for his post outlining this upgrade.

I tell everyone to simply call them and talk to them about what they do...They explained it to me before I did it....Raj 310-202-1555....Culver City Customs....they were the first to do the 02+ facelift, do custom widebodies and SUPER widebodies, as well as 997 upgrades...all work is done with factory STEEL parts...and factory wiring....

I agree with finishing touch part. this is probably the last exterior upgrade except ,maybe some new wheels. next I am looking at suspension and maybe a SC. I will let you know what I think of the bumper mod when I pick it up this week.
