What type of OBDII reader should I get

I've had some small but annoying issues relating to the "check engine" light. i'm sure it's a sensor, but when it's cold, it happens. Would like to get and obdII reader to plug into my 2002 996TT to clear the codes when necessary.

Will any OBDII reader from ebay work, or do you recommend any brand in particular?

thanks for your input.

AJ.

The best one for reading and clearing codes is Durametric...The only ones better are the actual Porsche ones (PST2, PIWIS) and they are beaucoup bucks.

Actron CP9135, will read codes, will provide basic description, allows codes to be cleared.

It's cheap but doesn't do the advanced things the durametric would do and even the durametric has limitations compared to the dealers devices.

durametric for $250. or free if you order a softronic ECU tune and tell them "vick57 sent you from 6speed".

P.S. i am not affiliated with softronic and i don't get any money for recommending them. i got to know the owner scott through email when i bought his software. he's good people.

Durametric and Softronic are VERY close . I would suggest that you contact either company for the software.

I use the CP9175 and I find it useful....especially the Freeze frame function that I use to get a snapshot of what was going on when a DTC (fault code)was issued. It will also erase DTC and much more

True it reads OBD2 fault codes as standardized by the USG , it does not read them as Porsche specific or closely read any of what the Durametric can. Take a look at www.durametric.com .

You are correct, the code is given and then your are on your own to "mine" the info on the code.
