My 996 C2 is slow compared to 335xi

We're buying a 335xi coupe for my wife and I've been test driving quite a few. The 335 just hauls ***. I'm in Colorado so at 5280 feet I believe I loose 20% of my HP. One dealer let my wife take it out alone for a drive and I met up with her. Those little turbo's have zero lag and just don't stop pulling. I can't imagine putting in a Vishnu chip and having 400 hp. The 335xi is one hot car.

I been thinking of selling my C2 and getting a TT and putting in the K16/16G setup from EPL. Can't be the slowest in the family. Ken

I had a 335i coupe and it is real fast and faster than my 996 C2, but it is not a Porsche and I would take the 996 any day over it. I sold the 335i to get my 996.

Nice car, but it's just not a Porsche...

drive in to a valet lot and see which car gets the preferred spot up front.

I like the 335 and the xi even more. I've driven an auto 335 and been in a manual as well. They are definitely deceivingly quick. Check out some of the 335 threads on here, there are some putting down some awesome numbers.

BMW's definitely hold up their weight too though. A Porsche is a Porsche. I'd still be grinning all the way home if my little 335 took out a $90,000 Porsche though.

Have you ever taken the 996 to the track?

I definitely agree with all the statements. My Orient Red 996 with an aero kit, side skirts, TT front bumper with silver mesh and new black SSR wheels turns heads wherever it goes . . . even more then all the silver TT's that are at the events I go to. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

I track my car about ten times a year. Between Porsche DE's and NASA, I'm hoping to get in 15-20 days this summer. I just bought a little tow behind trailer you've seen at DE's for track tires and supplies. If you don't track your Porsche, your really missing out on what the car was built for. I believe these cars need to run and there's no better way to do this then at a safe Porsche Club DE.

I'm now looking for a TT to buy and upgrade to K16/16G turbo's. This setup sounds like it would be awesome on the track and street. I have no need for more then 600 quick spooling HP.

No doubt, a 335xi is no Porsche 911. But for the class of cars there in, there's nothing better.

Ken

if you want a sports sedan, the BMW 335's are hard to beat. drive a merc C63 AMG. that's supposed to be a real beast. more money though. now lexus has the IS F. V8 power on that platform has got to be hot.

your C2 is still a better car. it was race bred. i'd be surprised if any of those cars could take your C2 in anything other than a drag race.

I rode in a 335i with software, full exhaust, downpipes, intake, intercooler, and a few other goodies, and WOW, that thing was crazy fast, especially for a BMW, haha..

Im actually picking up my 335 xi sedan later today. They are a GREAT CAR and yes very fast. Im still keeping my baby though because like others have mentioned you can not beat a PORSCHE for total experience.

I love my 996 and would only get rid of it for a upgrade Porsche. But I am excited about putting a Chip on my 335

This is echoed all too much. Yes, the Porsche is a better handling car. Yes, the Porsche is a race bred car. However, when you get your doors blown off by a sedan (ok, being beat by a 335xi aint bad) it just doesnt feel good.

I would hope that Porsche would make their cars easier to tune and create an entire aftermarket performance division. I think they would find alot of Porsche car owners would mod their car ,motors if they could get decent increases.

I guess if you want to beat the 335xi you should just get a TT.

Remember that the Power to weight is alot on the XI, unless you have a C4S. If you can drive well you can take the BMW, but if it is chipped good luch! haha..nice cars for a daily driver, but not for the track like our cars are built!

I am taking delivery on a 535xi mid March and will have the Dinan ECU upgrade installed on arrival. 384 hp and 421 torque. (warrenty still good). I traded in my 01 M5 because I really needed AWD here in Wy and Co. It will be interesting to see how it compares. My old Bimmer was actually faster than the P-car until I supercharged. Will

Will, how is the SC working out? That is still an option for me. I love the look of my car. The difference between a C2 and TT is around 25-30,000. A SC would give me around 400hp. Do I really need 600 (k16/16G turbos). I don't street race. It would mostly be for the track and an occasional trip to Bandimere drag strip. I remember in the beginning you were having a few problems with your SC. How many miles do you have on it, and would you do it again. Thanks.

There will always be someone faster and will do it with less $. Don't get too bend out of shape with a $45k BMW, you could be beat by one of the 355hp Neon SRT-4 that most anyone with a steady job can pick up for $30k. But, hey... no shame in that, right? It really comes down to what you want out of a car. I bet that Neon (with all the hard plastic trimming) would be a real beast at the track.
