Complete Engine Replacements
I wonder how i could find out how many people have had total engine replacements in 996s
I have had mine go at 30k in a fully PC service car. I need a new engine my Porsche center admit that this is not uncommon
Views welcome from those who have had similar problems and others who can help

I would be glad if you supply me with the folloing details for a survey i am trying to conduct
1. The reg of car and date of first reg so that we are not acused of making up the numbers
2. The mileage and how many years old the car was when it failed.
3. What the technical problem that caused the failure eg cylinder cracked
4. How much it cost you
5. offers and time scale from Porsche eg i was first offered £0 by Porsche GB the £800 a week later
6 If you had to fist pay for the technical inspection

I will look for the details of what exactly happened to the engine but the rest of the facts were as follows:
My '02 996 was first registered in January of '02. First owner put about 14K miles on it through the summer of '03. I took delivery of the car in July of '03. Drove it for two days and the engine died. They flatbedded it to the nearest dealer where they started dismantling the engine to see what was wrong. Couldn't identitfy the problem so it was decided to replace the engine with a re-conditioned one.
The car was little more than a year and a half old and had about 14.5K miles on it.
It cost me nothing to replace. The only thing I could complain about was the length of time it took to do the replace - about three weeks.
Did not have to pay for a technical inspection.
Best of luck - its frustrating.

My engine didn't fail. It simply wouldn't stop leaking oil from the crank. Once measured, the concentricity was found to be beyond that of the tolerance...so now I have a new engine.
