PCM Data Disks
PCM Data Disks
I used to have a traffic pro and it came with 2 disks, one for the East and one for the West. It worked pretty well and included most country roads and small towns. I then got a car with PCM 1. I figured it would require more data since it had a graphic screen but expected similar performance to the traffic pro since there are 7 PCM disks versus 2 traffic pro. Wrong. The PCM had no country roads or small town data; only larger towns/cities and highways outside of the towns...so driving on a country road displays an arrow on a plain background. Is PCM 2 any better?? Why 7 disks if that is all it shows? Also, has Porsche abandoned updates to PCM 1? The lastest version for a PCM 1 (according to Navteq) is 2001 and no plans for updates (there is a 2003 update but it is only suppose to work with a PCM 2 that has had a dealer upgrade).

Same situation here - a 2001 TT with PCM I. Called Navtec and was told that there would not be any updates available. The person I spoke with said there was some sort of hardware update needed to be done by Porsche before ordering newer updates for PCM I.
My question - is there a Porsche NA re/solution recall or upgrade available? Otherwise PCM I owners (like myself) have $3540 of obsolete equipment. If it was not meant to be software upgradeable then why have the disks?!
Quote from Navteq's own site...
"Did you know that a staggering 15% to 20% of the road network changes each year? To help you make the most of your navigation system, we drive the roads you drive, checking out changes in the road network so that you don’t have to. With NAVTEQ map data, you’ll have all the information your navigation system needs for you to arrive relaxed and on time.
Order your map update now! "
I JUST WISH I COULD (and in the years to come)!!
