PSS9 clumping

Post PSS9 upgrade does anyone else feel a clumping through steering column when going over small bumps and surface changes? It doesn't quite feel crisp enough, is something loose in my front suspension?

I have PSS9 on my 2001 C4 and I have never had anything like what you describe you might want to take it back to the installer to have that checked out.

Sound like bump steer issue. Did you full end alignment along with corner balance? After you mod. your suspension, you need to do these.

You're hitting the bump stops. This is why I just had mine set to GT3 specs and didn't do any customized settings.

Because these cars are very sensitive to the slightest change in weight. Technically, you should get a corner balance after any suspension or wheel modification. It makes a big difference on wear and tear of components.

I should know better than to respond to people like you, but for the 99% of members here who want to learn something...let me just get the entire motorsports industry to agree with you and we'll be all set.

Ben, the stock setup are not adjustable... if you lowered your car, the suspension dynamics has changed... at that this point youre in suspension lala land if you dont dial in some sort of alignment. Why not corner balance? You have the adjustability for it.... especially you 200+ pounders out there.

edit: Nikas... might wanna check your drop links... they might be loose...

Redridge, I think you might be onto something with the droplinks, something is loose - it feels a bit like a shopping cart at this point - taking it back to have it checked out.

Confused -
with my (admittedly) limited knowledge on the subject, I thought corner balance was not neccessary unless you tracked and wanted the most precise handling possible based on driver's weight-
Are stock pcars already somewhat 'balanced' off the showroom floor for a general weight range of driver?

Good idea, yes- why not do it if you can with an adjustable suspension- but neccessary or beneficial if it's primarily street driven? That's the point i'm stuck on.

I had a clunk on turnin while I was at ThunderHill. I couldn't find anything 'loose' taking off the tires from each end and looking under the car. After I got home, I jacked up the rear end which unloaded the sway bar and only then I found it was a loose drop link.

Corner balancing is a great thing; whether you track or not. I think one of the most important things that is does is allow each unit to do it's fair share of the work, obviously, you can also balance out the car to make up for things like the driver, amps, subs, etc.

Why drop $2000 on a suspension system and not dial it in appropriately. I mean a PSS9 suspension system isnt necessarily benficial if you are just driving the car to work. Unless you drive it to work like a race car and in that case you should get a corner balance and alignment.

If you just want to lower your car there are cheaper coilovers.

You've just described my driving exactly..

As you can see from my sig I have KW3's, and it is a huge improvement over the OEM suspension in every way.
If you buy cheap suspension for a pcar just to lower it you'll most likely end up with a very uncomfortable ride- Don't do it!

Alignment is a must after installing a new suspension and it is not an option. From what I'm reading on other threads, the consensus on corner balancing seems to be more of an optional item than necessity- but depending on driving style, for some of us perhaps it is!
