Help...need advise on "plus sizing" tires

Hi all
I have a 1999 996.
I am buying new wheels (EOM) that are 8X18 and 10x18
The original wheels were 7 1/2 in front.
On tire rack ..if i put in a 1999 to 2001 it lists the sizes as 225/40/18 and 265/35/18
if i put in a 2002 it changes the size of the rear to 285/30/18...
Why??? all years used a 10 inch rear...
and it does not change the front size though it expands by 1/2 inch...
The car is lowered 1 inch with H/R sport springs and I plan on using 15mm spacers on all 4...
Do you guys have tire size recomendations that will give the most aggressive stance without rubbing or other issues???
Thanks in advance!!!!!
j

that is the setup of tires i have used on mine...the 265s are right on for the 10 inch rears...i think the 2002 may have been 10.5 or something like that...but yeah those sizes are right for yours

I have an 02 and it came with 18x10 on the rear with 285/30 pzero tires.
I put 15mm H&R spacers on all four corners, worked out great (don't forget to buy longer bolts!!) In hindsight I would have gone 18mm spacers for the rear, there is still plenty of room even with my 285's and lowered ride.

I'm running 295 rear on factory 18X10s. I just ordered 15 mm spacers, maybe I should swap the rears for 18mm? Still lots of room back there.

the 295's should stick out over the rim a bit more than the 285's, let us know if the 18mm spacers work out. I'd say it's probably close, but have heard that you can go up to 21mm spacer on nb cars.

pOrsche3, absolutely no tire rubbing with 15mm all around? I've read that 7mm in the front was the most. Do you have front and rear view photos? Thanks.

285/30-18's will work on your car no problem. If you want 295's an 11" rim would work better.

I have 295/30-18 on 11" rears on my C2

you kidding?? I have more photos than I know what to do with.. lol

if you use factory 996 wheels with factory offsets (I am running the Carrera Lightweight 5-spoke 18x8F 18x10R w/ 285/30/18's) you can go 15mm all around with ease. I picked up this tip from other members here.

If you are buying rims with different offsets, or for example 19" 997 OEM wheels, you probably cannot use 15mm spacers.

Note that my car is lowered and i have my alignment set to GT3 street specs. No excessive neg camber needed to clear, no rubbing.

hey p0rsch3, that's a perfect drop on your car. it looks aggressive, but not ricer-low.

Thanks- Gotta love the KWv3 coilovers- easy to dial in the drop just right.
I had it a bit lower but was dragging the lip on everything, and yeah it was borderline-ghetto. I have about a finger-and-a-half gap all around (hows that for scientific measurement??).

IMO the biggest improvement on aggressive stance really came from the 15mm spacers on all fours.
