The CEL's seem to be an ongoing problem with the K&N's. I'm installing the EVO intake in my car (I'll have it in this week). I'll let you know if I have any problems.

^ clarification, seems to be related to 99-01 cars only- Perhaps due to the earlier design of the MAF? Doesn't seem to be an issue w/ 02+ cars.

I've had this problem. I think it might be the oil from the filter.

its not oil... it is more than likely faulty MAF design...

sorry to bring back this old thread. I'm new to the Porsche scene. I just installed a K&N intake on my car.. did anybody have problems with the heat shield hitting the alternator pulley? When i take off or change gears, the corner of mine hits the alternator pulley and causes a nasty sound. I had to kinda bend the heat shield away from pulley.

Welcom to the six! Do you have a 996 or 997? I have installed several of these on my pcars, the latest is on my 2006 997. It will only hit the alternator or pulley if you did not install it correctly.

1. make sure the bottom of the airbox (the metal portion that surrounds the KN filter) is set as far rearward (toward back of car) as possible. loosen the bottom bolts, remove the L brackets, pull the airbox toward back of car. the bottom plate of airbox should butt up against the back metal of the car.

2. make sure your L brackets on the outer, hatch side of the metal airbox are adjusted properly - you probably have them not holding the airbox completely vertical and it is canted slightly towards the engine.

The fit is snug but there should be aboutt 3/4" clearance between the airbox and pulleys.

BTW post some pics of your ride- it is <<mandatory>>!!

speaking of oil cap, you need to make sure you mount the oil filler as low as possible in the KN kit, otherwise the oil cap will contact the fan housing when you close the engine lid. you can tape a piece of white paper on top of the cap, close engine lid and re-open, to see if there is any contact on the oil cap.

BTW both my 996 and 997 came with a black oil cap like the pic- post a photo of your colored one?

<<edit>> nevermind I saw your pic- is that yellow cap OEM? Have not seen that before.
Is your KN intake tube carbon fiber?? What's up with that! nice.

The yellow cap is old one...you can pick up a black one at dealer or suncoast.
If you're worried about MAF...get an AEM dry filter($50) . That's the first thing I did and never had a problem with MAF malfunctioning on a 99.

I've installed 3 of these on my own pcars, and helped a few of my friends install theirs- not a single MAF problem to date. I could see a potential for problem if the filter were over-oiled after cleaning, but that stands to reason...
