Wow, that is a great idea... There is almost enough clearance to get down there when the car is flat, so this would be just enough to get it done.

I just jack it up and remove the drain plug, then let the jack down with the car over the drain pan.

What are you using as a jackpoint?

jackpad right in front of the either rear wheel (just one side). jack it up a few inches (3-4) just enough to get your arm under to loosen the drain plug, put drain pan under and then remove the drain plug, lower car.

I use the same technique for the filter.

good luck and be careful.

Jason, it's THE easiest car I've ever changed oil on...I would suggest for a few bucks more, to also buy the drain plug when you're at the dealer buying the filter. The older one may be a bit stripped...

Do you jack it up from the center of the rear, or do you use the regular jacking points, which lift up just one side at a time?

Gives me enough room for a drain pan.
Easy peasy
The lip at the entry to my garage is less then 1/2", so that's probably not enough. But is the only consideration whether the drain pan will fit under? In that case, if you found a low-profile drain pan that fits 9 quarts, would that do the trick?
