Dual Mass Flywheel

You may be like me and wondering what the dual mass flywheel looks like, and why.

After reading many posts that mentioned the dual mass, I had it pictured in my mind as a typical flywheel with two cast-in blance weights, wrong. Check out this picture that I shamlessly 'borrowed' from an on-line vendor.

Thjis thing is actually two flywheels with a long coil spring between them to absorb drive-line shock when shifting occurs. I suppose that's how the factory gets away using a disk w/o a sprung center on the street.
