Extended warranty cost
Extended warranty cost
Hey guys, my warranty expired on 4/10/08. Coincedentally, my fuel gage is out of wack as I had to PUSH my car to the curb even though my dash read 31 mi. left. Car is at Rusnak Porsche and my advisor said it could cost ~$1,000 to replace the "fuel sender" (i think that's what he said) which is the part that indicates fuel levels. So, I wanted to know if any of you have purchased an extended warranty, and if so, how much for how long. Other issue is that I have this small mod: an EVOMS SC, would this void my eligibility for an extended warranty? Thanks in advance for the input.
Paid USD 5400 for a 4 year warranty on my 2001 C2 with 71k miles on it. Covers everything except wear, tear and navigation (which I don't have anyway). Might seem like a lot of money but comes with piece of mind, especially with those RMS issues.

Seriously, most of the warranty language I read made it clear that non-stock parts are not covered, nor are parts affected by the non-stock parts. You might be able to shop around and find someone that will cover your SC and the rest of the engine, but I would doubt it. Perhaps ask EVOMS if they have a recommendation? No problem!
i bought one on my boxsterS when it had 18k miles: six years or 80,000 miles, $200 deductible for $3400. it was the warranty sold by the porsche dealer -- primus i think.
i've got CPO on my C4S until 01/09/10 at which point i'll be looking for a warranty or a new car.

Thanks guys.
Spoke with the service advisor, and not surprisingly, they won't even consider an extended warranty with the sc..
They ran the diagnostic and came up with nothing. Cost $150 to tell me everything is OK, so I guess it could've been worse. Tech's explanation...fuel gage mpg/fuel level is off because of aftermarket tires/rims. What a cop out. The rims will make a very negligble dif., but not 31 mi. on a full tank

i'm not sure anything's wrong dude. i wouldnt' trust that 31 miles left gauge even if i had a bone stock car. u shouldn't be running it down that close anyways.

1) I agree that you probably didn't have anything wrong. The miles left to empty is a calculation. Who knows what it is based on. At this point, I'd be more worried about the condition of your fuel pump if you ran it dry.
2) No extended warranty would have paid for pre-existing damage. So, you were going to be on your own for that repair. I think you could get one from an aftermarket source that would cover the OE parts for future breakdown.

I will agree with the posters that you shouldn't run your gas that low. The older the car, the more sediment is in your tank. The lower you get, the more chance of that crap being sucked up and sent through your fuel system. My wife's Audi had major problems for a while (8 year old car), where every week or so the car would stall at idle for a day or so, then (mostly) clear up. Turned out she was waiting til the red light came on, and sucking the muck into her fuel injectors. Had to do a fuel injector cleaning, which cleared it all up, and now we fill her car at 1/4 tank religiously.
My car is an '03, in-service in January '03, so I'm treating it the same way. 5 years of gunk is lurking at the bottom of that tank...

I purchased an extended Warrn. for $3,000 5-years or 60K miles bumper to bumper. Covers even tires/pro-rated. Some extras also with rental car coverage. I can elect to either take it to a dealer or independent Pcar mechanic. There is a $100.00 ded, but they would waive it if I took my car to them. Purchased the warran. from Mckenna Porsche in Norwalk. Not too far from San Marino. Usually I take my ride into Rusnak (Scott) and they do really good work. The S.C is one of those things they might frown upon, but it never hurts to ask. G.L with your car!
Your options in California are limited. I got mine through warrantydirect.com, they had been the only company (outside of dealers) that were able to offer extendeds in California. I have a 4yr/75,000mile warranty on my 2002 with 26k on the clock and I paid $4500 for $0 deductible. So far I have collected $2300 in repairs with no hassle.
Check them out online, last I new they were awaiting their California license to be renewed.

One more thing. Make sure you get an exclusionary warranty, this means they have to list exactly what is NOT COVERED in the contract. If it's not on the list, it is paid for. Less ambiguity. Also look for a clause that covers wear and tear type items, i.e. alternators, etc.
Just noticed you have a SC, probably no way you will get a warranty for that car.

Andy, you are correct. Spoke with Warranty Direct last week and they were cool until I mentioned the SC...no go. At least the SC is as bullet proof as they come.
