Flames from the Exhaust

A friend of mind has a 2003 C2 which he uses as a track car. He wanted to accomplish the task of getting flames to come out of his exhaust. Is this possible, I have seen it on turbo vehicles but not on NA motors. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Without any cats it is possible but with a NA motor expect very, very small and quick blips of blue flames on a downshift.

With the NA motor, what are the pros/cons of removing the cats? Main concerns: sound, power gain/loss and check engine light.

To some it might be ridiculous, but to each is their own and I was just inquiring for him.

This has been a hot rod trick for years... My brother did it to his Galaxy 500 with a tapped exuast pipe, wiring, toggle switch and a spark plug as an ignitor.

I think he meant more like high performance turbo engines do on downshift. I think the trick is lots of boost and high revs...And maybe lose the cats. I have seen many a race car do it, from Porsche's to BMW's....but, I don't think I have seen a NA car do it. No I take that back, I have seen Porsche GT3R's do it. I have also seen a Toyota Matrix pace car at Laguna Seca do it...not sure exactly what you need, but a heavily pumped up motor would be a good start.

NA cars can do it. My friend's Viper ACR with no cats used to do it a lot...
