Might be a dumb question about fuel injection on the 996
I keep reading how Porsche will move to direct injection on the next 911. Does that mean with the 996, the injectors mix the fuel in with the air before they are released by the intake valve?
With direct injection, the fuel is injected "directlly" into the combustion chamber. With "indirect", the air and fuel are mixed outside the combustion chamber. This could be the intake manifold or in the heads, upstream of the valve train. In both cases the air is brought in through the air filter, through the MAF and into the intake manifold and then into the heads/cylinders.

Yeah I understand the concept, I'm just wondering in the 996 if that is done in the head or manifold. I guess I was just a little surprised that Porsche is still making indirect injection.
Porsche just got rid of the aircooled engines... which was a giant leap. Porsche are known for evolution rather then revolution. When the PDI gt3 arrives, maybe, that will drop the older gt3 prices down... cause I want one of those, direct or indirect injection.
GT3 is such a sick car. Yeah it's funny how nasty of a car they can build without the most advanced engine techniques. They have always been able to produce ample power. But they understand the essentials of DOHC and variable valve control. Not like American car companies that still use pushrods and insist on just making engines bigger. I just love the monster bore that Porsche uses, love the bore x stroke on the 3.4l
You should buy a GT3 and give me your supercharger haha!
