02 996 v. e46 m3 as a daily driver, only vehicle?

Sorry if this has been asked before. If you had a choice between an 02 996 or an 03-04 m3 which would you choose?

Car will be used as a daily driver and only vehicle. Both cars would be in the 30k-35k range (hopefully,a nice example of a 996 could be found in the upper range). There are plenty of low mileage m3s for around 30k. The 996 would be a bit higher of course. Not looking to go over 35k if possible

No kids. No need for back seats, really. I have an Audi a4 (modded of course ) and almost never use the back seat. Usually I'm the only one in the car, along with my gf. I drive about 15k a year and usually keep my cars for 3-4 years or more. What is the opinion here for the 996 as a DD as opposed to the e46 m3? I would mod the cars but honestly, from what I've read/heard I would probably be doing cosmetic mods and suspension wheels only. TIA!

M3 is more comfortable, has the rear seats and large trunk in case u need anything. i think u'll get more for ur money if u get the M3 compared to a normal C2.
drive both, the 996 sure is a looker

Id say the M3 makes a better daily. More room. It does not come with a spare though.

You could pick up my high mileage m3 for cheap

if you think maintaining a porsche is compareable to maintaining a bmw, think again.....

The M3 is the better bargain for performance and practicality.

I wasn't really thinking that. I assumed the P-car would be more to maintain but I didn't think it would be a whole lot more. I was thinking maybe 20-30 percent more in maintenance costs for a 996.

Do alot of you drive your 996s on a daily basis or are most of them weekend/track cars? Do you think it would be a good idea to have one as my only car?

I agree with that. I do think the e46 m3 could start looking dated really fast where a 996 will look current to almost everyone but car people.

i think both are good as daily drivers.
but the 996 will be more fun

it's nice to have a daily driver/weekend car/track car be the same car.

I had an '04 M3, then I traded it in for an '02 996 C4S. I love the Porsche and use it for my daily commute. But we use my wife's Subaru for shopping trips, and most errands where we need the extra space. If you could only have one car, and trunk space and a back seat are an issue, get the M3.
