Question New front bumper advice

Not sure what to do. I want to change the front end, but I'm not sure if it is worth the cost/hassle.

As you can see from the above, my car with the turbo nose would look similar to the 40th without chrome rims and the special paint.

If I put the turbo look bumper from the 40th on my 2003, will it look like I am trying to be something I am not?

Also since I have an '03 turbo style headlights will it just be a simple bumper swap, or will I need to retro fit or get lots of other little bits to make it work.

Will anything funny be exposed through the larger turbo vents?

Will this aid or harm brake cooling? Would I need/want GT3 or turbo front brake ducts?

Could I swap it myself, or would I need a body shop to do it?

I'm not really a fan of the GT3 nose. Seems like everyone has one, I don't want to put a fixed wing on the rear, or go for the GT3 look when I am 60hp and about 1000 rpm shy(I am lighter though!)

I might consider the GT3RS nose, since it isn't played out(yet ), but I have yet to see a pic of it on a regular 911 like mine. The only difference is those three little cut outs in front of the hood right? Doesn't really seem that different to me.

Last is a reality check. Does this really make sense considering the expense, and having a left over nose with a $300 clear bra on it?

My guess to do the turbo nose not counting misc other parts, or labor if needed is $2000 for nouse and paint and another $300 for clear bra and possible the lower lip spolier if it fits. If other parts and labor are needed, it becomes hard to justify $3000+ on a small cosmetic upgrade.

If I were to get a turbo nose, where to buy from? Looks like Carnewal has it for about $1600 any place cheaper?

I also see mawshaw was a kit for $1325 that has the nose, grills and headlight trim. Is this nose as good as the OEM one?

I'd love to get some feedback on this. Thanks guys.

Here is what it would look like with a Turbo Front bumper...

This is a picture of Bocky's. He's a member on this board.

I saw that pic before, but it doesn't help.

Wrong side skirts, big wing, and looks like a 4X4!

Plus it has back seats and is missing the roll cage and GT3 seats

I also asked lots of detailed questions that a picture can't answer, but thanks for posting it K!

I am considering the same thing to my 03 cab. I called Brandywine(sponsor) and talked to Jay. He was very helpful. Turns out the OEM bumper is less than the aftermarket ones. See my other posts. It can be done by a body shop with minor modifications...no changes to the brake or cooling systems. Call Jay and ask.

FRONT END

I am in the same situation. I have the side skirts and the car is lowered, I am not a fan of the turbo bumper nor the GT3 nose, these are definitly played out....the only option is the RS bumper and I just did all the research

1) bolts directly on , whereas the turbo nose is a little bit of a job

2) cost $2000 or so + paint and labor $350

3) love the slots above it is just like the cup bumper...if not just leave the car alone

4) the marshaw stuff IMO is junk it is poor quality

just my 2 cents!!

do a forum search under "turbo bumper"

myself and other people have done several threads describing the turbo bumper conversion.

should only cost around $1200 at the most, painted and installed (if you buy a used one, which there are plenty of)

Deputy, I already searched with those EXACT words. Saw lots of posts by you. There is some info out there, but its scatter about and I never really found a set of complete answers so I figured I would post my ?

If it should cost $1200 total I am all over it. What should I expect to pay for labor and a used bumper? No more than $800-$1000 for the bumper?

The only mod you might have to do is cut back the bumper mount a few inches on either side. That's the bar that goes across the front. The TT bumper will fit ok, but since the mount is longer you would see the ends of the mount thru the TT grilles. A TT mount costs about $600, but cutting the stock one isn't a problem. The air intake ducts do not have to be changed.

Don could this be installed in my garage or do I need a shop?

What would I cut the bumper with and how I would I know how much to cut? Just use the new bumper as a template?

Thanks Scott. I'm really having a tough time with this. If it just swapped out and was easily purchased I would have done it already, but the cost, labor, paint and getting another clear bra put on is making me hesitant.

Thanks for the compliment! Your new GT3 isn't too shabby either

I kept my stock front bumper on my 996 the whole time I had it. I think your car might look a little too front-heavy with the Turbo bumper on it. Just my opinion. I think yours looks sleeker the way it is. Maybe someone can P-shop a turbo bumper on yours.

I am in no way discouraging you from spending $$ modding your car! I think I put about $40k into my 996!! :P Hoping to not go quite as crazy with the GT3, though I've already ordered about $6k in mods! (Seats, rollbars, etc)

same boat...

same boat here so I feel your pain....I really don't like the "height" of the oem carrera bumper...IMO it should sit lower....

GT3 Bumper
Turbo Bumper
GT3 RS Bumper
Ruf RSGT Bumper

I'm leaning towards a front chin to add to the bottom piece of the OEM bumper....this doesn't look half bad...

I swapped out mine also:
$600 for a used bumper-I've seen them as low as $500 and as high as $900
$380 to paint
$280 for clear bra.
No mods necessary. The body shop was able to save the eyebrows and re-glue them. With regard to the old bumper mount, have the shop spray it flat black and you won't see it. Then if you want to put back on the old bumper, no problem.
