997s engine in a 996??

I know I have been a little "new thread" happy but hopefully after this I can start posting the "check this out" fun threads. I'm looking for information on what all is needed to put a 997 engine in a 996. I've noticed they are less expensive as well as have more hp. I'm guessing brain, harness and some relays but if anyone has done this or knows what is required please post up. If it's the same price or less as putting the 996 engine in the car it seems like a no brainer

I guess you already saw the $7500 997S engine that is floating around the web...
I hope you can do it.

I've read that some people on this forum have done it, but I forgot who. I'd be interested in knowing a little info on this too.

You'll also need a harness

Who are you talking to in Altanta? A shop in atlanta did my car and a buddies. I went from a 3.4 to a 3.6 (2003 996 version).

Why go w/ the 997 based motor? The 996 based 3.6 is so much easier. IMHO if you were to do all the work to put in a 997 3.6 just make it a 3.8 to make it worthwhile.

1999 retained the cable throttle. Everything works like it did new... cruise, hvac, etc.

Yes, we're hoping for a "check this out" thread soon! We want to see that 996 pimped out with the GT3 front bumper, and the 997 engine.

Ask these guys:
http://www.ortonperformance.com/pors...engine380.html

They swap the 3.8L into the Cayman's.
I wouldn't see it being a huge issue. There might be a standalone ECU which can run the engine, you would probably sacrifice odd refinements which come stock.
