What Are you guys doing for Warranty?

I'm at 87K miles and I am currently out of factory warranty on my 2002 C2. Do you guys have extended warranties from Porsche or can you recommend any 3rd party companies that provide warranties? I had Total Shield before and they covered me on a new motor when i had oil/coolant intermix, but I wanted to check with you guys before buying it again.

Any recommendations?

Im interested too, but in a different sense. I will be running out of after market warranty. Is it possible to continue on the existing one account (I should read the fine print on my contract), or could I purchase another after market warranty for a piece of mind if anything happens to my car?

I bought Total Protection Plan from the indy dealer that I bought my car from. The plan was through Total Shield, but I guess they are not around anymore. I guess Total Shield was a reseller of the warranty. I plan to get Total Value Protection. It is the same warranty from the same warranty distributing company.

http://www.totalvalueprotection.com/

I might be able to ask for group buy pricing on this, but I'm not a sponsor so I don't know how that works on this board. Don't want to overstep any boundaries.

When I got my car, I paid ~$2k for the warranty and the cost to replace my motor was $13K. I didn't even drive my car that hard. But the warranty covered it all, except for the synthetic motor oil. Lol.

I'm being told by the dealer that I plan to buy my extended warranty from that they can provide warranty for out of warranty cars. Pricing is subject to mileage on your chassis though.

I have (well had) Total too but mine will be done in less than 100 miles, has anyone gone with another after market warranty after their existing one has expired?

Mine expired earlier this year, but I am planning on getting it from Jimmy at Vantage Motors (vmotors.com) because I would rather be out 2.5K than $13K. See if he can give you the same as what I have.

I'm actually using my extended warranty tomorrow. Having my front headlight washers checked out. For some reason they don't pop up when activated. You can hear the mechanism, but they don't work. Also having the drivers side seat checked out. Makes a ugly sound when moved back/seat. My warranty covers a rental car up to $35.00/day for 10 days max. I don't think I'll be getting a 997 while my 996-4S is being looked at. Maybe a Dodge neon, yeah baby..My warranty was 3K-Bumper to bumper with some added extras: Tire hazzard pro-rated, rental car (see above) 60K miles on top of my current miles or 5 years. I will never hit 60K miles since I only drive it on the weekend, if that. I also have the freedom of taking it to any independent shop if I choose so. Tomorrow it's going to Rusnak Porsche in Pasadena.

(Fidelity Extended Warranty-from Mckenna Porsche, So-Cal)
I purchased my warranty from Mckenna Porsche dealer in So.Cal. Your MODS that you listed above seem harmless, but you might want to check on coverage before hand. Another option with this warranty is I have the freedom to have an independent mechanic work on my car. I can see this being handy if you know a porsche mechanic who can work around one's MODS. Only MOD I added was exhaust so I think I'm ok. Good luck..

that's great because i'd prefer to go the shop that installed the mods in the first place.

I'd be intersted in the group buy as well. The whole catastrophic motor failure thing makes me want to sell my car b4 she blows one day. This was never a consideration with my 1983 SC; that car was pretty bullet-proof except for the 1st gear syncros in the tranny. Slight case leak @ almost 140K, but such is realistic.

I have a 2001 996 cab with 78K and climbing since I like driving it Let me know.
