Good points Nola

Worth looking into. I believe one can make an insurance claim now, they can keep it open as long as they can to see if it will make it or not.

Having an arborits opinion/recommendations would not hurt

Our hero needs a tree hugger..

Long live the Tree!!!

Hate to say, but the same thing crossed my mind. I can see the add now...
FS, 19" Champions, mint condition except two have very minor curb rash and one rear has a 6" sliver, can be buffed out! Seriously, hopefully the occupant/occupants are unscathed and the driver learned a sobering lesson.

Wow... losing control in a neighborhood implies really stupid driving.

Yep, you need to be carrying pretty decent speed for that to happen. Understeer can happen at low speeds, but to get the trailing-throttle snap oversteer as described by the OP, he must have been going 55-60 mph.

And I should know. I've taken out a tree in exactly the same manner (only it was on a deserted road in the country, as opposed to a neighborhood) in a 99 C2.

There's no way this accident happened as a consequence of anything other than reckless driving.

hopefully he's alright. Without the facts, it's probably best just to say that and leave it there.

Pictures tell more than I care or need to know already. NO excuse or reason to justify his dumb ***.

I do hope the tree is doing better...

That is exactly what I telling you, never come close top loosing it in a resi area.
I've only, and still do, my spirited driving away from these type of places.
To be clear, just driving 35 in a residential area is already pushing it, and speeding is one thing
Now loosing control of a 996, and destroyin it upon impact (see long skid marks) is a different story all together.
The it might not be his fault, poor guy and all the other **** does not surprise me though.
All good until one of this idiots hits home

Some things one should not try to justify.
Much like drinking and driving. After all, don't tell me you haven't done that before at one time.
Maybe that family just pulled out in front of that poor drunk driver...

Again, no excuses in my book for this ****

I'm done with this one

No problem. I have never lost, and never will lose, control of any vehicle in a residential area. At any reasonable speed in these areas, any emergency manouevre you perform in a 911 will result in understeer. The only way to induce oversteer on dry pavement at low speed is to brake hard, throw the weight forward, wrench the steering wheel, and jab the gas in 1st or maybe 2nd gear before the car settles. Dump-clutch launches, clutch-kicks, or handbrake abuse might work, too.

Neighborhoods and school zones are sacred.

For those of us that have never really pushed our cars.....or tested the limits of our driving skills (or lack thereof.....)

What is Understeer and Oversteer....how do I know it's happening??

these cars seem to ride on a rail....false comfort????
