I like them. It is one of those things that not everybody likes. The ride is very stiff, and bumps are very noticeable, thus requiring extremely focused driving
. Not everybody likes the ride, most people like the OEM soft riding Porsche, but I like to feel like I am in a sports car, not a family sedan. To me a sports car should feel and drive like a sports car
My first sports car was a 1960 MGA with right hand drive. I was 17 living in Europe (1964) and having the time of my life
. You asked so that is my opinion

I have mine on coilovers also and it can be stiff at times but, I too love the sports car feel. I have an Acura TL for the luxury feel. I have never owned a car and kept it at stock height. I absolutely hate the stock wheel gap and even more when people put wheels on a car and don't lower it. At the minimum take up the wheel gap. Some H&R springs keeps a nice ride with the wheel gap gown. Both my fiancé and I have TL's and mine is lowered on H&R springs and hers is stock. You can't even feel the difference between the two.
As for my Porsche, that is slammed and you can feel the difference when on a bumpy road. I love the feel though so to me I am driving my dream just the way I love it.
Man I would love to do that I love slammed cars, I mean so low it rips out lane reflectors when you change lanes. Unfortunately I live in LA and the 405 freeway will rattle your car apart. There are places on this freeway that its so bumpy that I have to go above 80 or under 50 so I wont throw up in the car. If its traffic and I have to drive at 60, after 3 to 5 miles I will get sick.
I'm on stock shocks right now and I need to change them. I was looking into something more sportier and low but, the more I think about it I think it will cripple me cause I drive on that freeway everyday. And If I take the side streets it will take me 2 hours to get to work in stop and go traffic. And I will never be able to drive down to Hermosa beach.

I first had H&R springs on mine with the stock struts and the ride was really nice. Wasn't bumpy at all. That should give you a drop you will be ok with and the ride won't kill you on your way to work lol. Rhode Island roads are terrible also from all the snow and the salt water. I just do a lot of swerving and stopping and going lol. If you go to my pictures and scroll all the way to the last pictures of my car with the stock wheels that's it lowered on H&R springs. Now I have my car so low that the wheels are tucking and I couldn't even put a lip on it cause I'd tear it off pulling in and out of parking lots.

Believe me, I feel your pain. I live in the San Fernando Valley, and travel the 405
on a daily basis. You get to know all the bumps, dips and holes in the road and you go around them. The suspension on my car has 33 different levels or settings. I have mine on the softest setting and that is NOT SOFT by any stretch of the imagination. On my 928, I had Konis with the H&R lowering springs and that dropped the car about an inch and a half. By the same token the ride was very smooth. I think what makes my ride even harsher is the fact that I have 19" wheels, with very low profile tires. If I get an opportunity, I will trade up for some good old fashion 18s. Oh well, that is a story for another time
I have 19's with a 30 profile tire. No way ill trade out my 19's for a smaller wheel. 19's look perfect on these cars. the The bumps suck but like you said, you learn when they are coming and to what side of the road you need to ride when going by them. It literally becomes second nature. Sometimes I catch myself driving my TL like its slammed lol. Even if my 911 was my DD and I had to travel the 405 I'd still slam the car and deal with the bumps. I just can't drive a car at stock height. I had a 944 as my DD for a little and even had that thing slammed.
I know what you mean. When I drive my wife's BMW 328, I still avoid the cracks, holes and other obstacles even though her car is stockheight. Force of habit I guess

Not at all, I've never rubbed and they are 19X12 they are even bigger than the standard 11 in the rear that most rims come in. I have the coilovers set so the body sits just at the top of the tire in the rear. I attached a pic, it's kinda hard to see but if you zoom in on the picture you can see how low it is in the rear and the front.
My 996 is a daily driver. It has been my only source of transportation for the past four years. It was a nine year old car with 107K miles when I purchased it, and it is now a 13 year old car with 131K miles. Yes, it has required maintenance and of course some mods or upgrades for personal taste. To me it is more fun than driving a Honda
Just to bring this post up again.....
And to get people turn these beautiful machines into "real" DDs.
I myself was not driving it much for few years. Over last 2 years though, I am enjoying the ride to and from work. I look forward to the day I will use my 996 '99 C2 to and from work. And as I go on the highway, man it is a great ride.
to cut it short:
153000 km.
Last major service at 135000 km. I bought it in 2008 with 109000 km. Don't know of any major issues before I bought in Canada.
Still planning to drive it couple of months before going to the dealers.
Wish me luck guys, I am planning to break the 200000 km before selling it....
