i was down at my local dealer getting some tires mounted.
we talked about high milage 996.

he told me that there is a 2001 996 turbo on the west coast that has 1,100,000 miles on it. All the service managers follow it as the owner comes in quarterly for some work on it.

the owner loves it at wont drive anything else.

way to go!!!

87K miles and runs great. Just broke a motor mount though. Drive it daily in Arizona blazing heat with a big smile. Why drive a crappy car daily? Drive the car you will enjoy. Life is too short to drive boring cars. It just needs normal care, but the parts cost more than a "regular" car. If it dies, I'll just rebuild and keep going.

its the C4S forum, but I dont mind adding that I sold my 79 911sc with 325K miles. My C4S probably wont get all the way there, but I drive it every day, rain or shine. Over 40k now with the LNE fix put in for motor and mental security.

1. Car info (year, model)
02 Boxster 2.7l 5-speed.
03 Turbo 6-speed.

2. Years of ownership
11 years for the Boxster.
3.7 years (approx) for the Turbo.

3. Mileage on car
266K Boxster.
106K Turbo (96K I put on since June 09).

4. Care/maintenance religious practice
Oil/filter changes every 5K miles. Use Mobil 0w-40 most of the time. Some summers I've gone to running Mobil 1 5w-50 (not a typo for 15w-50!) but I can't tell the difference and both engines have experienced triple digit temps and triple digit speeds (concurrently) more than once and I think if 0w-40 was not up it I'd know it by now.

Other services I have done when due and of course take care of issues when the come up.

Avoid high rpms until engines fully up to temp.

Drive the cars. A lot.

I 100% agree with this!

I used to own cheap dd's and finally realized how stupid it was to drive a cheap boring car when I could afford a fun one daily.
I daily my GTS and love it!
