I finally got my KN in the mail. Still havnt put it on yet though. The good thing is the guy has the heat shield already put together.

One question though for guys with it, I dont see the drycharger bag that goes ova the air filter. Is this something I need? I went ahead and ordered one already but could I get away without it for a couple a days so I can install this thing today or wait

yes, but no

Hey Phantom. I have the K&N setup. It's an open box, and definitely robbing me of mid-range power. Sounds MEAN as hell, but that's what exhaust systems are for. if the two choices are 1)keep OEM intake, 2)install K&N, save your money for something good, like putting towards exhaust system! I am going to trade my K&N in for a different custom unit that has a sealed box.

If you have any questions, let me know!

O

Robbing you of midrange power? First I've ever heard of that- I'd like to see the dyno chart to support the claim.

One of the uses of the bag is to stop water from entering the filter and intake system through the K&N when it is raining or in a car wash since it is an open set up. If you don't plan on getting the car wet before it get there, you should be fine. This was discussed on some of the other K&N related threads as a reference.

hey Porsch3...Bodymotion in Ocean, NJ told me that, although I also have not seen a dyno. However, judging solely by the open box and insufficient heat shield, I wouldn't doubt it. Anyway, the info is coming from a reliable, and knowledgable, source!

I didn't have any problems when I put a K&N CAI on my '99.
I felt a gain in power (SOP) although i don't have any dyno numbers to prove it.

My end opinion is that there are definitely better systems available, but for the money, K&N or EVOMS are the best you're going to see.
I felt like it was worth $300, others may not.

Guys thanks for the responses to my questions. I FINALLY installed it earlier today. The install wasnt bad at all thanks to my heatshield being put togther already . One thing that drove me nuts was I didnt get the T20 Torx wrench for the MAF screws had to run to 2 hardware stores but enough of that.

My thoughts so far. I put 16 miles on it thats it. One thing i go back to with other cars I put intakes and chips I always initially lost power. With this and the plenum you feel as stock which to me is good and tells me your in for a nice treat when the car adapts.

I def already feel power with this and I know with 50 or 100 miles this thing will open up more. Im very impressed with this product and the Plenum a very nice combo for guys looking for some umphhhhhh. The sound is AWESOME @ 5k and beyond. I have a 03 so Ive read about the MAF problem but most of them are prior +02 so ill keep everyone updated on the issue but so far SO SWEETTTTTTTTT great product.

Have you rolled your windows up and stomped on it in 3rd gear at about 3k rpm yet? The sound as it passes through 4-5k rpm is absolutely crazy. I can't get enough of it. Got lucky the other day as I was showing it my daughterr when out of the blue a deputy sheriff was coming the other way. 65mph in a 45mph. He just flashed his lights at me and kept going.
Try it though, you will love it.
