Rear wheel width on 996 NB

Hi everyone, quick question. I have the 18" OEM carrera 5 spoke wheels on my 2003 carrera. What is the wheel width for the rears on those stock wheels? is it 9.5" or 10" and would it be ok to use 19x9.5" aftermarket wheels for the rears running 285 series tires?

Stck size (at least on my 99 C2) is 18x10 for the rear. You can run 265/35, 285/30 or 295/30. I'm running 295/30-18 and there is still room for a 15mm
spacer (-2 camber), as long as your 19" have the correct offset, 285 shouldn't be a problem.

Don't get 9.5" rears. I am pretty sure it is incorrect for your car and a 285 width tire will look like a mushroom. You should use at least a 10" width rim with factory size tires.

What wheels did you buy?

I'm running 285's currently and could easily run 295's.

Just got back to your 997 section...you're dead to us here

^ LOL- yeah yeah... but my heart will always be "996" - You'll just have to tolerate my unannounced drop-ins

Are you running on 9.5" rears? 295 on a 10" is no prob, but will look slightly more mushroomy.

Yup MCM97 called it. Was looking for cheap wheels i can have the valet scuff up for me till they look like course grade sandpaper along the lips. By the way, what exactly does "mushroomy" look like...had a whole different meaning when I was in high school...whats it mean on 6speed? LOL!!!!

Heh- yeah, I did not mean to imply that your car would fail a drug test.

When the rim is too narow for the tire, the tire sidewall bulges over the rim lip in sort of a mushroom effect.

Hey I have a set of almost new Imola Design 21 wheels, 1-piece forged.
Fronts are 19x8.5 and rears are 19x10, comes with center caps and security lugs. $600.
No rash or dings.
http://www.imoladesign.com/design21.htm

Rears weigh 28lbs / fronts 25lbs.
Offsets fit NB 996/997 and sit nicely with the fenders. Rears have a nice deep lip.
They are 5-spoke polished chrome, I was going to paint the spokes black or gunmetal which would probably look pretty nice. They are taking up space in my stairwell.

I'm in West LA so if you want to come by and have a look let me know.

You should run (front) 8.5-9"/235 or 245 and (rear) 11-11.5"/295 or 305...yes, they will fit.

Thanks for the info gentlemen. P0rsch3 i will contact you for more info on those imola wheels. I am not crazy about chrome, i would much rather have it black centers with chrome lip.

Raffi- Sure, let me know. I was going to paint or powdercoat the centers black and leave the lips chrome. They are a very good quality billet wheel, IIRC they were about $2500 new.
