No CarFax Report
Okay, I meant limited Carfax report.
I am looking at a '03 C4S that has the following carfax report:
08/05/2003 Mile: 47 DMV Title issued.
09/05/2008 Mile 57,000 Sold at auction
Can this be true? A Porsche driven for 57K without proper maintenance? What scenarios can you draw from the above report. Is this vehicle worth looking at for $39k. Everything else is standard and in working order. This is being sold by a small dealer in CA.
Thanks.

Be careful of believing in carfax too. Do a quick google search and read some REALLY bad stories. Mileage reports are bad and the owner has all the documentation to prove it and they still won't change it. Car had a salvage title and carfax says clear.

Try to get service reports perhaps through a Porsche dealership that car was purchased from. It will not be complete, but may provide dates of service without details.
I am not a fan for Carfax accuracy. It is only good as a data point that may be a part to provide a complete vehicle history.

the other thing you could do is to call your friendly Porsche service advisor and ask them to look up the car for you. not all will do this for you, but if you already have a P-car and take it to a dealer, they should do the favor for you.

Yea I wondered if all the porsche dealers were connected. If you called one and gave them the vin if they all are connected and know what was done and when

Carfax
I flew to Philly to look at a 968 that had a clean car fax report. When I got to the dealer, he gave me a file almost 2 inches thick with every thing done to the car over it's life, including the two wrecks it had been in which one required a new front end. Carfax is easily beaten if you ask the shops in question not to report any work. What I cannot explain is why the insurance settlement was in the file and it still did not show up on the carfax. Beware
