Talking The song of my 996 ....

Ladies,Gentlemen and Ben

With all this muffler chat that's been going around I thought it would be a good time to post up the real deal.
My son and partner in crime took the video

The clip does a nice job in capturing the sound, not near as good as live, but one gets the idea.
When my son got back in he shook his head and said "wow, just sick"

Turn it up loud and enjoy!

Malakas is infamous around these parts
It sounds great - very deep tone.

It's a SpeedArt I assume?

Thanks guys!

Running on SpeedArts (made in Germany).
Transformed the car and my driving experience to say the least
I'm not into the loud, more so into the refined/exotic sound only the European cars can produce.
Porsche should have never put out those stock mufflers on such a car
Glad for the after market world...

aite aite... let's play

-at WOT, they all begin to sound the same since it's the same damn engine
-the exhaust can sound special at slow, quarter throttle speeds and speedart sounds like most other exhausts which is just louder
-PSE has the guttural roar and it sounds best at 4-5k rpm under partial throttle acceleration (no aftermarket exhaust can deliver that quality growl period)

believe me, i'm a fan of the aftermarket, but porsche absolutely got this nailed down with their pse on the 996/997 carreras

Is this the exhaust?

It looks about the same size/weight as the OEM. Do you feel it was any lighter?

Ok, all kidding aside

PSE does makes the top of the list. I've heard them live now, no doubt it is sweet

To say the rest all sound the same is a big stretch to say the least though

The clips do tell a story, to each his own on preference.

Some of the after markets seem to deliver that "smoother" refined sound, but not all.
Like most things you get what you pay for, Europe makes a better sounding muffler IMHO

It is far from just "loud"

All good though, I do enjoy and value your input most of the time

Yes Malakas, those are it

They are 7 pds lighter than stock (I checked) perfect fit.
They look the same as stock, better welds/built.
I was told Germans like the stock look so that is why SpeedArt made them so. Night and day difference though

I love the look of the stock as well... how it fills the rear panel... it almost looks like that porsche shaped them like that with a purpose (aerodynamicly speaking)... JMO nothing else.

The exhaust sounds good, very nice low rumble... Im even gonna go on a limb and say that it almost sounds air cooled in a sedate form (trust me thats a compliment).

You know it's just hard to say there is one "best"- They both sound very good in their own way. The Speedarts are notedly bassier, the PSE raspier and bit more classic Porsche sound. It's all about personal pref I guess .
If I were looking for a tamer exhaust I'd probably lean towards the Speedarts since I like the lower tone (between the two). Thanks LS for sharing the video, your pcar looks great!

For now still enjoying my rowdy AH's:

I will say that final judgment needs to be made in person, in/out of the vehicle.

ABSOLUTELY!!! That comment is the only legitimate thing that can be said about all the exhaust sound inquires we have on the board. Video clips give you a hint, but not true reproduction. You must hear these in person to know the difference.
