just use a real TT bumper. it's cheaper, easier and looks way better, also it's made from urethane which can handle a 5mph impact, NR will shatter.

Isn't there a problem with the carrera's exhaust pipes lining up on the real turbo rear bumper?

If not, that needs to be my next cosmetic upgrade

it does need to be rerouted. about $100. and another $120 to do the plastic welding that is needed a small slice needs to be cut out.

Can you elaborate on what needs to be done? A small lice cut out from where? And doesn't it stick out at the seam just above the bumper? And isn't it slightly longer at the wheel well? I have seen a few on narrow bodies, and maybe they were not done right. Please elaborate.

a turbo bumper fits directly to a 996 any year or model. the upper and side screw holes are exact. the only problem is that it is too wide or in true essence too long. if you bolt the turbo bumper on it the ends of the bumper will extend about 5/8" too long in to the wheel well. you will need to cut a slice out of the bumper. a body shop or bumper shop will have to plastic weld the slice back.

body shop required from this point

step 2: this is done you will need to prime and paint.

step 3: decide if you want the rear bumperettes or not like doncapecod's photo. he has it the euro style without bumperettes. if you do not want the bumperettes you will need to hack the mounts off. very easy. if not cut hole in the bumper so the brackets will go through.

step 4: you will need to make brackets for the lower part of the bumper that will bolt on to the heat shield. also very easy, do not be worried. they just use scrap steel.

step 5: obviously the muffler tips will have to be rerouted since they are slightly closer to the sides. a muffler shop will charge you about $100 to re do your old tips.

eric:
does the bumper fit flush against along the back side? Don C's sticks out a little. Looks fine, just wondering if they all do that or is it something that can be fixed during the install?

How do they reroute the tips since the end of the pipes aren't round? Not sure where they'd get piping that would fit on there.

can you post more details on this slice out of the bumper? my body guy has not done this conversion before.

do you need the heat shield for the bumper? i'm assuming you can't reuse the one out of the stock bumper? my bumper source does not include a heat shield with his kit.

one other thing, will the stock C2 tips look stupid with the turbo bumper?

you use your heat shield. stock tips will look fine, and any muffler guy can reroute, make sure you tell them not to pinch the piping at all, some bad muffler guys might get lazy and think you don't know anything. just have your body guy take off your tips then mount the TT rear bumper, you can see from there how to hack by using my pic. it's a no brainer for a body guy unless he wants to play stupid so he can say " oh this is tough, gonna cost you extra"

I think what Eric is saying is that once all this is done, it will fit flush. Don C's does not fit flush on the back because his has the extra on each side which pushes the bumper back slightly...Eric correct me if I am wrong.
