there were no Caymans in 05. Plus the first ones in 06 were all S cars. Regular Cayman was out in 07.

The right choice is a 911/996. I have a 1999 996 with the explosion prone 3.4 motor, and have had NO problems with it in the 60,000 miles it has on it. When I think of a Porsche it is a 911 I see, none of the others they have produced, 914, 944, 928, cayman, boxster or cayenne can compare to the lines and beauty of the 911.

Pick-up a '99 (low mileage) for 24-25K and drop in a new motor for 10K. You also get backseats!

In 2002 they went from 3.4 to 3.6 liters, 300 to 320 HP, 258 ft-lbs to 273 ft-lbs of torque, glovebox and a couple other minor things.

A Captain I work with bought the Cayman, I got the 911 a week later, which is what he wanted, but couldn't afford new. We park our cars side by side, and he has regretted not getting a slightly older 911 ever since mine came on the block. My Carrera is for sale for far less than what you're looking to spend too by the way. Check the link in my signature. Carreras are extremely reliable cars, and especially so if the owner has cared for it and maintained it as prescribed by Porsche. Buying low mileage, one or two owner...I would not be concerned about warranty coverage.
