i see this is an old thread, but for anyone who cares...

i have a tip cab and a 6 speed coupe of the same year and engine. i've had both on BIR and Road America. i like both. the tip definitely allows you to focus on braking and turning while on a track.

last night, my brother (who owns an m-coupe) commented on how nice is was to drive and plenty quick. he also felt that it took some of the work out of driving the car.

learn to blip the throttle as you hit the down shift button and it will enhance the shifting and response. you can also blip the throttle in auto mode while you decellerate and it will down shift quicker.

i don't have the tip-S, so you have that going for you too.

These kind of driving tips are the most valuable for learning to get the most enjoyment from your tip.

Knowing how the tip thinks will teach you how to get what you want from it. One other tip I heard is that if you quickly mash the accelerator half way, it will start in 1st gear every time.

Also, no one mentioned it here, the the turbo tip is rated faster than the turbo manual in 0-60. I don't know why the NA is rated so much slower. It would be interesting to know why.

This doesnt work for me. It always shifts to 2nd at lights etc. But a quick press of the tip button puts it in 1st for whenever I feel like listening to the exhust.... Jabing it quickly on the highway will downshift from 5th to 4th or 3rd...

That's strange. It works reliably for my '03 C2. It looks like you have the same version judging from your avatar.

Mine also almost always shifts to 2nd at lights (the only exception is when the car is cold).

So are we talking about the same thing? I am talking about when you are starting off from the light from 2nd gear, you can either press the shift button or stab the throttle to get it to shift down to 1st.

Per my earlier post, the '09+ 997 PDK/ Tip cars are faster than the 997/996 manual cars. If your friend had bought the Sport ver. of the PDK, the car would have been an additional .3 of a sec faster for a total of .5 sec quicker than the manual.

The 996 Tips are about a half second slower than the 996 manual cars.

I agree. I have a Mk1 car, but I prefer to press the Tip button and accelerate from first gear vs jabbing the pedal, raising my foot off the accelerator and then accelerating; I can move my thumb quicker than my leg and the extra motion offsets the acceleration gain and is more jerky. With the buttons you have a 8 second window from standstill before the Tip brain returns to normal mode.

I think the tranny was mapped by Porsche to utuilize the jabbing method more effectively for quick rolling downshifts. I think its effectiveness is lost from a stand still since you are only going down 1 gear. However, at any speed above 30+ mph, I think the jabbing method is more effective at matching road speed and gear selection to get max acceleration.

Hey guys

own a 98 tiptronic C2, and my issue isn’t a small loss of power, it’s basically 0-60 time of almost 9 seconds (lol) . Otherwise car and tip running perfect, no knocking, no heating, fully serviced ... so is it a deep serious boring problem ? appreciate the guidance
ps: all stock on car.
