Something to look at:
Not to hijack the thread, but what should the alignment be? A few degrees negative camber?

Thanks,

Most of the weight difference comes from standard luxury options. Only about 25% of the weight difference between the C2 and C4S is due to AWD. Another small portion comes comes the 4S's large wheels and brake rotors. The rest is all cushy stuff that comes standard on the 4S, and is optional on the C2. A well equipped C2 will have much of that weight too - leaving you the "performance" parts in weight on the 4S. The 4S also has a sport suspension, which a C2 does not - by default. The weight of the AWD, big wheels and big brake rotors can be a handicap, but only if you don't use the grip they offer to your advantage.

Numbers aside, I haven't yet come across a C2 on track that I haven't passed. =)
The C4S is 143lbs (65kg) heavier than the Carrera 4 and 276lbs (125kg) heavier than the Carrera 2. I don't know about you but 143lbs seems alot of extra weight, that's like carrying around Tyra Banks all the time
It's more about the 'feel' between the 2 variants. I've had a 4 and a 2 and the 2 just feels so much lighter and responsive in turns. I'm not saying one is better than the other by the way, maybe you're just a better driver than those guys in the 2's. I had a Carrera Super Cup driver in mine pass GT3RS's on track, in the wet!

The mistake I hear stated over and over is that each car has it's signature "feel". This really isn't true. Change tire pressure, change camber, change toe... and you'll get to feel a whole new car!

Thanks,
Well, here are Porsche specs for the 4S, for the US, ROW and X73 suspensions. I use a very different values, however, to allow different handling properties. I change alignment a lot, but currently I'm at:
front:
height: 128mm
camber: -2.5deg total
toe: -1/16" total
caster: aprox 7.5deg (each side)
rear:
height: 143mm
camber -2.0deg total
toe: +1/8" total
I'm sure I'll change something again soon, after some more testing. On a fully stock suspension, only camber and toe can be changed. But, those, along with tire pressure, affect the chassis balance quite a bit.

True but it was you who stated 'base' C2, a base C2 will be lighter on turn in than a 'base' C4S. I've owned both and the 'feel' is lighter.

C4S all the way. I have a 02 C4s that is my daily driver and i love it! I don't care for thr narrow body 996 c2. The rear end of the C4S looks super mean!

I just hate putting my toys away. The C4S is the ride of choice for 4 seasons. I sold my Vette C6 because it was just unsafe to drive below 30 degrees (even with snows). For all WX the C4 is the vehicle of choice. I may go to the Porsche snow driving school this year!

I think you may have misunderstood. I said a base C2 is lighter than a base C4S, as in it weighs less. Nothing to do with turn-in feel. =) Actually, there is enough variation in a stock 911 due to manufacturing differences, spring sag, etc... that any single model will have a range of feel and handling properties unless setup by a competent alignment shop. I've not driven two C4S's that have the same feel as each other, nor two Ducati 916s, nor two... well, you get the point. =)

Regardless, the C2 is a fine car too, and I won't try to discourage you from enjoying every minute you spend driving it! =)

I went the C4S way for the look and the slightly better suspension/brake setup...
But mostly for the look. The Wide Body is just mean...

If you're looking for a pure track car, most likely a base C2 with mods will do better than a C4S will all the extra leather :-) But if it's a DD, C4S. Safer when it rains and a lot nicer to look at (IMHO)

Good luck!
