2005 996 Turbo-S (yes/no)?

I currently have a 01 C4 996 with aerokit. I have been intrested about the feel, drive, and performance of Turbo. I was at dealership and he mentioned the TurboS is coming out next year with the same bodystyle as the 996, but with 440HP vs 415HP which is the HP for the current production.

does that sound like a must have car?
Should i get one? would i be happy with TurboS?

post your suggestions.

thx.

Watch the new porsche turbo video clips, "Dreamworks and Why". This should help answer your question. I was convinced.

The Turbo S is a fully optioned Turbo so you really can't go wrong with the package. You'll save money versus ordering a turbo with all of the options that are standard features in the S. The question you need to ask yourself is does the turbo drive and feel in a manner that you enjoy? You need to drive a 996tt to get a better idea. It truly feels much different than a 996 C2 or early C4.

The Turbo S is a fully optioned 996tt so you can't go wrong with the overall package. It should be a luxurious and fast car. I personally found the 996tt to feel heavy versus a standard C2 and prefer a light feeling car. You really need to drive a 996tt to see if you like the AWD (which makes the steering feel heavier than the C2) and driving dynamics of the car. There are many very happy turbo owner out there so the car is a good kit.

On the flip side, you can pick up a low mileage perfect 01/02 for in the 80s. Drop a few dollars on upgrades, or $25K for the RUF motor, and you can have 600hp for a lot less than a Turbo S.

Personally, I'd wait for the 997 Turbo.

My understanding is that the only reason it has more HP is because it includes the X50 option as standard now (as well as PCCB...which I would avoid if you ever intend to track the car).

The S is all a marketing gimmick as far as I can tell. Just like the 40th Anniv 996, Boxster 550, etc. Nothing special on that car that wasn't already available.

Holger is right and I agree with Tpup - drop 90K into a low mileage used X50 and use the other $50K to buy a truck or see the world

Look into a pre-owned 996TT rather than a new Turbo S, there isnt much at all of a difference in the two to justify naming it a "S".
