Engines blow...WTF??
Engines blow...WTF??
TT owners,
Is this only related to non-996 turbo engines or does this apply to us? I just bought a 2003 15k mile 996TT and has been CPO'd. Does this mean I should drive it more often so I can get the new engine by the time the CPO runs out? I hope this engine problem is not related to 996TT and only isolated to 996 engines.
Please let me know.
Thanks guys,
Jim

The M96 engine problems are with the 996/986/997/987 NA cars (that is the engine that came with those cars...the earlier ones had the most issues...seems to be rare now save RMS and that is less common now).
The TT is GT1 based. It can be blown, but not likely if left stock.....
Over boosting...too many revs, etc. But the implosions are an NA issue for the most part.
Others here know more.

I cant elaborate because I dont know the specifics...just heard that with use the 996 engines blow in a very short period of time. This is what I'm trying to verify. Thanks

This topic has been completely beaten into the ground. It's probably been discussed more than any other topic regarding the 996. I didn't want to even respond to this post, but you've been around long enough to know you should search for your answer before asking a question. Especially if you are searching out a rumor.
Everyone knows that car engines never fail. They are loaded with hundreds of moving parts and electronic systems that work tirelessly into infinity regardless of use or maintenance.
You also forgot to add that oil is probably the worst thing for a 996 NA engine. It's a water cooled engine. Duh.
