cruising in the fantastic weather today in south florida. this car is awesome.

sunroof button seems to have come loose from the dome-light-surround trim thing. seems like a simple enough fix. how does one remove this plastic trim piece?

There's a good chance you might have broken the plastic mount the switch hooks into. When you get it down look at the plate for sure. Park Place broke mine and it sounds like exactly what happened when they broke it.

Oh thats right, this is that 8 year old 996 the plastic mount broke on that PP replaced for you at no cost ( since it broke while in their posession )

Then again, since bruceinmiami is in FL, MAYBE , just maybe this is someting that HAPPENS? Or maybe one of the PP techs snuck in and broke his too?

S

( Sorry for the Hi Jack but I just could not resist, LOL )

My sunroof one touch open-close stopped working - switch was replaced, looks like a late year 996 or 997 button as it is matte and all others in my car are the old glossy ones...any ideas?

Cover just pulls down, but on plastic of this age expect some damage to the mounting clips. In the attached photo I've circled the areas that I repaired to address the same 'loose switch' problem; used 2-part epoxy.

well i pulled the rear-most tabs (without breaking them!) and repositioned the switch by sliding my hand in. Will need the epoxy as stated in post above, because switch mounting tab is indeed broken.

Easy fix = happy camper!

If you use a very small flat head screwdriver you can pop out the clear lenses that cover the dome lights. Once the lenses are out you will see two small screws to remove and then you can easily remove the entire piece. I did this fix about 6 months ago and used super glue and it is holding up great!

great thanks! i didn't know there were screws to be removed so i never continued to attempt removal of the piece. i rather not break and exchange! better to go to mechanic and have him repair correctly instead.
